Went here before a show last week I ordered a tortilla soup & a taco…The taco had was a weird on to order, it had mushrooms chicken and Brussels sprouts as well as feta cheese rotisserie chicken & tomato…it was just gross too much going on especially the sauce….but probably my own fault because when I think about it it doesn’t sound good…The soup was super thick…I’ve never seen tortilla soup made like that and I lived on a border town for years..It also had almost no chicken…not sure if it was the end of it or that’s how they make it, but after a few bites I tossed it…I just did not care for the food at all…The other thing is their hours it was like a twenty to 8 when we went in and I felt like they just wanted us to leave so they could lock up…we had to put all our garbage in a little white bag because they had everything done for the night…who wants to feel like people are eyeing you to leave…The bigger girl who took our order was also not really friendly…all in all it was not a good experience for me…my bf & his son liked their food….ground meat tacos…that was the only meat options chicken or ground beef…I will not be returning…They must do good business to be able to close at 8 o’clock on a Friday night…but I wanted to share my experience.

Glad I listened to other reviews and got the crispy brussel sprouts. They're so crispy to the point where the texture is like roasted seaweed. The dark meat chicken was good but needs to be eaten with the sauce. Overall I was satisfied with my meal for $14.

Kid-friendliness: $9 kids menu for ages 10 and below

Food is always so good from here. I always get the same almost legal rice bowl with extra chicken. And sometimes I substitute it with half rice and half Romain lettuce, very fulfilling, especially after a workouts!!

What happened to the delicious, flavorful food? I ordered a 1/4 dark meat. It was very bland, smeared with some type of sauce. The charred broccoli was not charred, it was soaked in some kind of buttery sauce that tasted rancid. Maybe it was a bad day?
The staff was pleasant.
Very disappointed, wont order here again.

I love ordering from el pollo guapo! I have ordered countless times in the past few months. The food is well-balanced and so delicious! The pickled onions make the bowls so addictive. I also really like the chocolate chip cookies, they're soft and chewy! They also have good vegetarian options - the chickpeas are great. Cannot recommend this place enough to anyone looking for food options in Hartford.

Loved it so much, I came back the same day (I travel a lot and have never been to this area). Dazed and Confused is a really good bowl!

El Pollo Guapo is a top three all time lunch spot in Hartford. I’ve been working in the city for over 20 years and really enjoy trying all the food options. I remember this first as a great food truck in Bushnell park and was thrilled to see they set up a brick and mortar shop at Front Street a few years ago. I’ve long said their arroz con pollo is possibly the best lunch dish you can get in the city (roasted chicken, pickled onions, plantains, grilled corn, awesome sauce and more). I’ve had almost everything on the menu and it’s all excellent. I’ve recently gravitated towards the salads which are packed with tons of different ingredients and give every bite a unique flavor. It’s also my go-to when dieting… I could eat their grilled broccoli and coleslaw every day.

Ordered a 1/4 chicken with Brussels and handsome rice. Specifically got dark meat because I don't like dry chicken. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The Brussels sprouts were greasy, overcooked, and underseasoned. The rice was good.
The prices would be reasonable if the chicken was good, and there's a nice selection of interesting items on the menu. I'll maybe try it again in hope they were having an off day.
