Manchester is my home town but I live 2000 miles away, but e when I return home I try to hit Shady Glen. SG is renown for its cheeseburgers and ice cream. Those are completely great choices, for sure, but I go down-menu for a scallop platter or whole belly clams. I get their fries and Cole slaw whenever I can. My mom accompanied me this trip, and just ordered French fries and Cole slaw, with a half-gallon of chocolate chip ice cream. I can't argue with those selections. Perfect. I got a hot fudge sundae with mint chocolate chip, scratching a childhood era itch. I love this place.

The first time my wife visited Shady Glen was about 25 years ago. She finally got me in the door fotlrvthe first time a day ago. She was in her element pretty much knowing the menu and ordering her all-time favorite drink, chocolate soda emwith peppermint ice cream.This restaurant was packed at noon. The menu is typical lunch counter fa4exbut well done. Servers were very efficient and food was quickly delivered. This is a $ to $$ menu and worth it.Wheelchair accessibility: All one floor.

I walked in and ordered take out around 5:30 on Saturday April 6th, 2024. There was only 1 other customer who was waiting. I ordered 2 cheeseburger platters and 2 half gallons of ice cream, to go. It was over $60. They "forgot" my order. I prepaid for my food and ice cream and waited and watched, and waited and watched. They were obviously overwhelmed by take out orders at the counter and messed up every single order. I know, I was there for over an hour. It was sad and frustrating. I had to ask what was going on and repeat my order to the same guy over and over. It was such a disappointment. The guy said I could take an extra half gallon of ice cream for my trouble. I said I didn’t want it. By the time I got my order, and tried to eat, the food was worse than the "service". I'll never go there again, which is sad to say. I've been going since my parents first brought me in the 60s. No more. It's like watching someone you love, suffer and die. I'd rather remember them the way they used to be, not what they've become.

My husband and I brought our son’s girlfriend for dinner, for the first time tonight (April 6). We expected a wait as it was about 6:10/6:15p on Saturday but was pleasantly surprised to find a booth right away. Sat down and the waitress came over and took our drink order and then came back and took our food order. It wasn’t overly busy when we arrived and she said we came at a good time. We sat talking and my husband’s milkshake arrived, a Diet Coke, and a glass of water. It started to get very busy as a line had formed for people waiting to sit. We kept chatting and realized it had been some time since we had placed our order. My husband asked the waitress about the wait and she said they were down a cook. Okay, understand. More and more people started to arrive and by now it was 7p. My husband asked if we could at least get the fries we ordered and she said she couldn’t do anything as others had been waiting longer than us. Ok, so we wait. The side order of fried cheese was brought and it was burnt. It is always yellowish, soft and delicious. Neither of us could eat it and I asked the waitress to take it off the bill as it was burnt. Then we realized that some people who had sat down after us at the counter had gotten their food and were eating. I told my husband, pay for the shake and soda and let’s go. We paid and left. It was 7:15p. We stopped and picked up food and went home. The entire situation left us baffled. My husband thinks our slip order must have been misplaced. It will be some time before I go back.

I've been going here with my family since I was a kid. Incredible food and great service. I know people that travel from out of state to go there for their cheeseburgers! Breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is always great. And save room for ice cream!
