Even thought the menu is limited due to the downturn in trade, the owner is very personable and pleasant. I lived in Jamaica for 6 years and always appreciate it when I can find authentic Jamaican food.. Will definitely be back even though it is 15 miles away from the Shoreline!
I ordered the lunch special with chicken curry. It was fantastic-the rice and beans were well seasoned and moist, the vegetables were well cooked and not mushy, and the chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender. For five dollars, it was an incredible value. I was also happy they had Ting (it's an uncommon soda, and very authentically jamaican.) The staff was friendly and helpful as well.
Loving Caribbean food as we do, we had to try out Caribbean Flavaz since they just opened recently. We tried their j*** chicken and ox tail meals. They both came with rice and peas and cabbage (no plantains unfortunately). The chicken was tasty, but was more like a BBQ chicken with no j*** flavor. The ox tail wasn't very saucy, but it was still tender and good. We also got some roti, which was good. We'll definitely be back, especially since they'll be serving ackee...
