What a gem of a place. EVERYONE CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!! My husband and I went last night for Valentine date night. We were both blown away by the entire entire experience. Colleen was our server, she treated us liked we were regulars. She was delightful, fun and so attentive!!! My husband had the steak which was, Words can not describe how this steak just melted in your mouth, I didn't want to chew, the juices, the flavors....WOW.
I had the grilled lobster, I was transported back to Maine when I lived there and we met the lobster men on the pier, grilled on the beach. Richard, the chef is a magician, I was finally seeing summer over the horizon.
Maureen and Brad, thank you to you and your entire staff for a wonderful evening!!! We will be back!! Hopefully so will more people.

I had the 12 oz New York Strip with loaded baked potato, cream spinach & 2 classic patron margaritas. My husband had a whole baked chicken breast, loaded baked potato and cream spinach with 2 cognac with cokes. The restaurant was cozy with a rustic style adorned with lots of wood. My husband prefers something more modern while I like old fashion. It had a small salad bar. Our waiter was a very upbeat young man who had a positive attitude and smiled all night. The chef worked hard. Our food was wonderful. My steak was slightly above medium but still perfectly tender and had a buttery garlicky flavor. I loved it. My husband enjoyed his meal. We agreed the creamed spinach was really good. I poured it right into my baked potato. The fireplace was beautiful, and the drinks were perfect.

That was the worst prime rib I have ever had. Cold, tough, stringy and over cooked. Such a disappointment. When I was at the salad bar and saw the prime rib wrapped in foil under a heat lamp I almost changed my order. Im so sorry I didnt. Will never order that again. And for $65.00, what a shame.

Wife and I always end up here on special occasions. Food is always great and service just as good. Has the feel of an old school steakhouse. Watch the chef grill your dinner while getting salad from the self serve salad bar. There’s a reason it’s been around forever. We will keep coming back for more!

Hands down the best NY Strip steak in CT. Salad bar is a bonus. Friendly staff and true Americana atmosphere.

My family and I love The Smithy! The steaks are delicious and always cooked perfectly. We love the old school atmosphere, and there is nothing more cozy than dinner in front of the fireplace on a chilly night.
Colleen, our usual server, always has a smile, and makes sure we leave full and happy. She's one of the main reasons we chose The Smithy for all our important occasions, as well as nights we just want a great meal for the two of us.

Last night, I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Smithy that I feel compelled to share. I ordered a porterhouse steak cooked rare—a cut I’m very familiar with and regularly enjoy at various steakhouses in the area. Several members of my party also ordered porterhouse steaks, requesting medium rare. When the meals arrived, it was immediately apparent that my steak was more well done than those served to my companions, despite my request for rare. I politely informed our server that my steak was not prepared as ordered and asked if it could be corrected. He took the steak back and returned shortly after, stating that a thermometer had been used and that the steak was, in fact, rare. He then insisted that I was mistaken, citing variations in steak color and implying that I was wrong. I explained that I frequently order rare steaks and that this one did not meet that standard. His response was dismissive and unprofessional: “Are you going to eat it or not? Because if you don’t, I’m sure someone will.” He then removed the steak and offered a partial discount on a meal I did not eat and that was not properly prepared. I rarely complain at restaurants and dine out infrequently—perhaps once a month—but I do expect a quality meal and courteous service. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was informed that the server himself was the manager and that this was the best resolution I would receive. The steak, priced at $55, was reduced by $23, but the interaction left a lasting negative impression. The manager’s conduct was the most discourteous I’ve encountered in any dining establishment. We have family friends who work at The Smithy and have enjoyed previous visits, but after this experience, I will not be returning. As someone who works hard and values their time and money, I expect at minimum that my food be prepared as requested and that staff treat guests with respect. I have never withheld a tip before, but last night was the exception. The lack of professionalism and courtesy completely undermined what should have been an enjoyable evening. I strongly urge others to reconsider dining at The Smithy until its management addresses these issues and prioritizes customer service and food quality.

It’s so refreshing to find employees that are dedicated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Zac was are server and he was wonderful, engaging but not pushy. My ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We will return

The Smithy is in an old New England style house with a nice fireplace and many small rooms that offer privacy. Salad and cheese bar are a nice touch and the steaks were delicious. Daily specials are always very interesting. Owner is usually on site and a friendly staff.
