We decided to try The Smithy for our anniversary dinner out. It has kind of an up to date 70’s steakhouse vibe. It’s one of a dying breed that still has the old school salad bar that’s included with your meal. It had a nice steakhouse menu with a nice variety of selections. I got the French onion soup starter. The flavor was good, but I don’t think the cheese was Gruyère that is what’s supposed to be used, I’m pretty sure it was mozzarella. For our Entrees I had the porterhouse and my wife had the filet. Both were cooked perfectly to perfection to a nice medium rare. Both came with a baked potato that was cooked perfectly as well. The only knock I have on the potato is the up-charge for the bacon and chives of $2 each. Especially when you can get bacon bits included with the salad bar and the amount of chives were negligible. We decided to have the brownie sundae for dessert and that was a nice throwback too. The waiter said they had a good cappuccino so we gave those a try with the dessert. We were kind of disappointed with those as well as they were basically instant coffee with some cream and topped with whipped cream, not a cappuccino. Overall the food was very good. Our waiter was very helpful, personable and friendly as well so that was nice. This was a very nice steakhouse with great food. It has a few areas that could be improved on a little bit, but the good far outweighs any negatives (I won’t say bads here).I would happily go back again.

Wonderful dinner at The Smithy on Saturday. The server was excellent, the meals were prepared perfectly and we enjoyed every minute of our dining experience.

This place is great. Best steak place I have been to outside of the brand name, high end steakhouses. Service was quiet and very attentive. I ordered the 18" cowboy steak and it was tasty and cooked to perfection. My wife had a different cut and it was also excellent. They have a salad bar that comes with dinner and a cheese tray that you can serve yourself

My wife and I went to The Smithy last night for dinner, as we have many times in the past. We've always enjoyed ourselves there and had great meals and service. I would tell all my friends to go there. Last nights experience was the worst. The food took over an hour to be brought to our table. The waitress did apologize and said the kitchen was backed up. We understood as these things sometimes happen. However, when we did finally get our meals, they were below average at best. My wife's salmon was inedible. It was completely dry . She returned after a couple of bites. Waitress offered to get her another, but we didn't want to wait another hour. I had a Gorgonzola burger, one of their specials. I ate it, but it was pretty much flavorless with no hint of gorgonzola at all. The Waitress said she told the owner about our complaints. He never came over to address them. We left after paying full price for our meals. One of which wasn't eaten. Very disappointing because, as I said, we've always had good meals there in the past. Will now thinks twice about going back.

Although I have never eaten here, I wanted to publicly thank Maureen and Ron for taking the time to reply to my email, as I requested a rather short notice gift card for my sister who lives in Monroe. I live in Phoenix, and couldn't get it for her birthday, and they took the time to deliver the gift card that day to my sisters mailbox! My sister loves the food here, and if their food is as good as the customer service, it's not surprising. Thank you again for you kindness. Next time I'm in Monroe, we'll come in.

This is our favorite place for date night! The food is always incredible- steaks cooked perfectly, delicious sides, and one of the very few places left with a salad bar! the service is always great, also. Last time we went, I was bummed we had to sit at the bar (we don't drink), but this is what you get for showing up New Years Eve Without a reservation. oops. It turned out to be wonderful. We sat next to the owner, Maureen and met her husband and son as well. They are lovely people. We got to hear so much about it , which only made us appreciate it that much more. Thank you for saving this iconic restaurant! Oh and the Almond Cake for dessert is a must! We will be back soon!

Love the Smithy! So happy it landed on the other side of ownership change and pandemic! Christmas miracle!

We dined at The Smithy on a recent Saturday. We've been before so we know it helps to arrive right around when they open at 5PM, and we were seated immediately. The wait staff was truly attentive and quick. We like the environment of the place, it's very cozy with the fireplace on and you truly do feel like you're in the dining room of a friend's home. The salad bar was limited, but has all the basics with everything fresh and the dressings were outstanding. All of us enjoyed our entrees and the soups were great - looking forward to our next visit.

This place is a quintessential classic CT restaurant. I loved it. Salad bar... Rare thing these days. Dark wood. Fireplace (gas). Cozy factor achieved. Friendly wait staff. The food was as you would expect for such a place... Solid... Established... Rich... Lots of dot dot dots. Just the way I'm feeling. I would go back. If you want modern, white, hard surfaces, don't come here. If you want to feel cozy and warm and at home with solid food, come here!
