My girlfriend and I ducked in for a couple of drinks before the gym—just to change the night a little. We asked Brandon to make us something special.

We were on a pre workout stroll and stumbled upon this interesting looking bar. We decided to ditch the workout and step inside. We were greeted by Brandon, the bartender, and we requested our usual. Please give us a different cocktail, each different, of whatever you make best. And oh Brandon outdid himself!! We suddenly were transported into a three star Michelin restaurant. Huge recommend. Hachiroku’s a well-beloved chain of Japanese restaurants local to New Haven. This location is unique for its extensive cocktail program.
The food’s great. The sauces were particularly amazing in how well the complemented the food. Comparing the bites with vs without sauce, you can tell just how crucial the sauces were.

116 Cocktail Bar By Hachiroku is a well-beloved chain of Japanese restaurants local to New Haven, and this location is unique for its extensive cocktail program. The cocktails feature nuanced and distinct flavors, with care put into the ingredients and infusions. The drinks menu consists of different creative highballs, classics with Japanese twists, entirely original creations, and a wide selection of Japanese whisky with some really rare bottles. The bartender crafts A+ cocktails and makes guests feel welcome. The food is great, and the sauces are particularly amazing in how well they complement the food. The edamame cannot be beat, with a charred, garlicky smell and lots of fragrant peperoncini. The fried soft-shell crab goes so well with the ponzu. The kakigori is a must-order, with paper-thin and delicate ice flakes. The folks at 116 are super gracious about making reservations and attentive to large groups. The staff are great, and the place seems very popular. The Spicy Tuna Monakas are a standout. Overall, it gives a glimpse of Japan’s serious craft cocktail culture.
