We had a bad experience. We got the dry pot, and our food was intensely salty and oily. We couldn’t really eat it. Interestingly, the food came out within a few minutes, leading us to believe it was largely pre-prepared. We also got sesame balls and soup dumplings, which were mediocre. The service was bad too. Our server was unfriendly, and the staff disappeared to eat their own dinners. Not sure if this was an off day, given the other good reviews. But I do not recommend this restaurant.
Family consensus, this is the best Sichuan Chinese restaurant in the Northeast of US. That’s given that we’re from NYC where there are the tons of authentic Sichuan restraints and the likes of Chuan Tian Xia and Sichuan Mountain house and we’ve tried the underwhelming Peter Chang in DC-Virginia. If you’re any self respecting Chinese foodie you are honor bound to come here and try to food.
Ask for the chili oil to taste the chef’s skill and enjoy the meal.

This was hands down the best Chinese restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. The prices were spot-on, and the food was absolutely amazing, so good that even the cold water tasted incredible (I know, right?). The service was outstanding, and the ambiance was superb.

I visited Chief Jiang last weekend and left a cash tip on the table, only to later discover that an additional tip was added to my receipt without my consent. That is extremely unprofessional and dishonest, and it completely ruined what was already a mediocre experience.
Beyond that, this location is overrated, overpriced, and the food wasn’t even good enough to justify the cost. For the prices and quality they charge, you’re better off going to your local Chinese restaurant.
I’m leaving this review to spread awareness so other customers check their receipts carefully. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to others.

Great place to visit when bringing a school field trip to New Haven. The staff was extremely attentive and well prepared—everything was already set up when the students arrived. The prices were very reasonable, and the food was plentiful and delicious.

Food was fantastic and prices were reasonable, only problem was the service. Shouldnt need to stand up to flag don a waiter if we are one of three groups in the whole restaurant...

Food was really good however the owner need to stop being cheap and hire more staffs for the weekend. It’s crowded and only few staff working. You can clearly see the staffs getting overwhelmed. The wait to get our food and drinks was very long. Really felt bad for the staff but the food was great.

Authentic food, very good and reasonably priced. Chong Qin style fried chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce were phenomenal very tasty and steaming hot. The white rice was steaming hot and good too. Highly recommended. Will certainly return when we’re visiting New Haven.
