I had the traditional chicken salad which was delicious!! The environment is very pleasant and relaxing! I tried the dessert too but I can’t remember the names but was absolutely delicious! One of them was a pudim and I could feel a little taste of egg but nothing that takes my 5 stars away! I am going to be back for sure to try other sandwiches and desserts
I ordered five pies for an event, and they were delicious and looked absolutely beautiful! Everyone loved them, especially the Key Lime Pie, which was a huge favorite. My order process was really easy, and the staff here were nice and helpful 🙂 I highly recommend this place.
Best of the best! Best food to dine in, best food to go, best catering, best cakes, best baked bread, best people. And those Lemon Meltaways are a little slice of heaven!
Great food for years. Best lunch in New Haven, including the pizza places.
Always great!
An absolutely fantastic spot in the heart of the East Rock area. This gem offers a diverse array of freshly prepared dishes, including chicken, crab cakes, soups, beans, vegetable quesadillas, coffee, bakery items, and more. The indoor seating area has a charming setup, creating a cozy atmosphere. Most of the food is made in-house, ensuring quality and freshness. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience. It's perfect for morning breakfast, a quick lunch, or an early dinner, and they also serve beer and wine. Prices are reasonable, making it a great value for the quality offered. Highly recommended!
Thank you so much for making my husbands birthday so special. We will definitely be back!!
Hidden next to the PANTRY, Chestnut is a better option and they take credit cards. Come here.Absolutely awesome little restaurant and bakery that's family owned and operated.Rose was great from the initial greeting to making recommendations to serving us. Fred and Patty are the owners and are so sweet. The food are home made and old recipes which are uniquely delicious. The inside is like a flower garden, very pretty. There's a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant with handicap parking as well.I have over 57 million views of my reviews and eating is my past time. This a a hidden jem. Enjoy
Chestnut fine foods has served New Haven for so long with such kindness, mastery and grace.Patricia is the kindest person, and Fred is a master chef, second to none. From crab cakes with sauce to die for, quiche and eggplant parmigiana that is exquisite, to other dishes available for catering! They also have a selection ofsandwiches on homemade bread, soup of the day and the best is for last…The cookies are a fan favorite, but be sure to check out the other sweets like their signature butter finger chewyYou will not find a ‘finer’ place to eat in New Haven! The staff is incredible, bon appetite !
Fresh-baked whole wheat bread -- yum! Why is that so hard to find these days? My first visit was yesterday, and I see a nice deli selection of veggie ingredients too. I'll definitely be back to try that out ... and pick up more bread!

Great service and food.
To supplement our food choices for a family dinner to celebrate our mother’s 95th birthday, we ordered a chilled salmon dish from Chestnut. It was a tasty hit, and the presentation was beautiful.

Great experience! Excellent food like grandma makes. Everything is made in store including all breads and desserts. A great place to catch up with old friends or to enjoy a nice treat and chat with lived ones. They also cater the finest events as well as the backyard BBQ. DEFINITELY worth stopping in and checking out!
Vegetarian options: Most of the soups, and there is an equal variety (that varies) between proteins And Veggies. Also there are fish dishes for those who only eat fish

My wife and I come here quite regularly. It’s just such a cosy space that makes you feel like you’re in grandma’s kitchen. The food is delicious and the staff are very kind.
