They have a decent amount of gluten free options, which I always appreciate. I love the stuffed eggplant and the avgolemono soup is very lemony. My only wish is that they had gluten free pitta bread so that I wouldn’t have to eat the tzatziki spread with a spoon. ;)

I can not believe this place has such a big rating. I've never had such a bad greek food in my life. I ordered a moussaka there which was too ambitious. The food is greasy, portions are super huge, and salads are not fresh. I could not even finish the plate. The worth thing is I had a heartburn later that day. I will not recommend this place to anyone who wants to try greek food.

Loved this place! Came here on a Thursday night and it was oddly empty, but the food and service were spectacular.

We were thrilled with our meal. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We wanted more than deli food. Kalimera did not disappoint! We arrived later in the evening and many favorites were sold out so go early. We will be back!

Be very careful about extra charges onto your credit card (I noticed a tip was added to my takeout charge when in fact no tip was given in the first place)

What a sweet place! The RealDeal. Feels like a real escape. Super sweet waitress. Love the decor. Easily accommodated family party of 8 at 5 on a Saturday. Lots of specialty faves and they're homemade! Best grape leaves with tzatziki I've ever had. We got baklava to go and Mom called later to say her YiaYia used to make it with 1 clove in each diamond and she hasn't seen it that way since. Thumbs up!

Coming from a Greek, this place offers authentic Greek cuisine. The owners are super nice and have brought with them directly from Greece the secrets of dishes that are otherwise impossible to get in the US. Ask for the daily specials

Wonderful authentic Greek food. Fish and meet are just amazing.

Wonderful. This is the real deal, NOT diner food.

Best Greek restaurant in CT by far! Everything is delicious and authentic. The owner and main chef put his heart and soul to his cooking and only use freshest ingredients. Also great opportunity to learn some Greek because half of the customers are from Greece - and that’s no coincidence!

We were a party of 6 that almost didn't allow enough time for dinner. Service was provided by a very nice waitress working alone. Her task was apparently complicated by "something bad" that happened to the lamb chops in the kitchen; it finally arrived as others were finishing. A fish special called Bream was the best of the table with the leg of lamb dinner being the worst - several other dishes fell into the "okay but I probably won't order that again" category. Unfortunately they ran out of the sardines at lunch which sounded promising as a special. The Greek salad had no lettuce and an over abundance of winter tomatoes. Atmosphere was basic with a small bucket on the table holding the paper napkins but if one can figure out what is going to make the kitchen shine on a particular night then it would be worth another try.

Love this place. My family is Greek and I lived in Greece. Love the food and atmosphere. We come here as often as possible. Very healthy and fresh. Family friendly.

Cute inside, very open and blue, with murals and art. Our waitress was friendly but a bit lacking - she brought the check before asking us if we wanted dessert and coffee (we did), and was not very attentive. Only ONE seafood item, the shrimp on salad, was available due to weather issues in Greece. The shrimp was over-priced for the portion size, although perfectly grilled. Very good gyros with fries inside. The oven roasted lemon chicken was juicy and tasty. We tried two soups that were very flavorful - lentil and lemon chicken. The Greek coffee and baklava were also wonderful. If not for the lack of seafood, and service, I'd give 4 stars. Certainly worth another try.

I really love this place. I went there for a lunch with my mother. The lady who waited our table was very kind. The food was delicious and very affordable. Perhaps this was because we came at a slow time, but there weren't many people there. I'm a little bit concerned about that. It's a great restaurant, and they deserve a solid base of customers. I hope word spreads. They've won my loyalty.

Our favorite Greek place close to where we live closed and we were pining for good Greek food. works in this area so we decided to give this a try based on the positive reviews. This place totally comes through with the food and the service. Very spacious dinning area with light Greek colors. We ordered the Mesogiaki salad, grilled octopus then grilled sardines and mousaka The mesogiaki salad was great everything was fresh. The salad was served in a bowl made of Parmesan cheese. Mousaka was really good. Sardines and octopus were simply and well prepared

Was hesitant to write this review because it's one of those hidden treasures that you don't want anyone else to discover; however it was too good not to write a review. Clearly not many people know about it yet, as we were one of the only ones at 830 on sat night. As soon as you walk in, you feel as if you traveled to Greece for the night. As you graze over the menu, powerful Greek music plays in the background and your culinary journey begins. The prices seem a bit steep at first glance, considering the casual atmosphere, but once you try the food you'll understand why. Both the Greek salad and the feta dip appetizers exploded with flavor. Each ingredient was so incredibly fresh. The olive oil and the feta are imported from Greece, which makes this such a unique restaurant. I had the moussaka- with potatoes eggplant and ground beef. The layered potato was fluffy- not over cooked or doused in sauce. Simple and delicious. For dessert we had the house made baklava that was very memorable. Can't wait to come back.

Authentic and delicious dishes. If you are lucky and there is fish on day's special menu I would totally recommend to go for it.

Delicious Greek food, clean and bright inside, the waitress even brought over a pile of books for my toddler to read. Very reasonably priced

Great Greek food! I went to Kalimera for the first time a few months ago and ordered the Greek salad and the fish of the day (sardines). If you are looking for a healthy and at the same time delicious meal, you should definitely try those two dishes! Since then i have visited this restaurant several times, tried most of their traditional dishes and was really impressed! Everything was cooked to perfection...

Excellent spot in downtown New Haven - dips are great, vegetarian friendly options available, will definitely be coming back!

I dont know why the place was empty for lunch other then maybe its the day after labor day and the cookouts filled everyone up but the FOOD WAS AMAZING! MADE WITH LOVE AND ONE OF THE MOST AUTHETIC TASTING GREEK FLAVOR EVER. It was a little hard to find because the yellow outside blends in with the street signs and posters but you have to try this place. Definetly family owned and I welcome the quirks that come with it. Can't wait to go back.

Sick and tired of the “ fake” Greek food places which substitute in average or canned ingredients and swear it’s homemade? Are you bored out of your mind with standard Greek offerings as imaginative as corn flakes? If you are in New Haven or elsewhere, longing for authentic, phenomenal Greek food, get your body and those you love to Kalimera. Take it from world travelers who have also dined in the best restaurants in major US cities: NYC, Chicago, LA, etc. on business ( where demands are high) and who know how to cook ourselves, Kalimera is the real deal. We have been searching for an authentic Greek restaurant since the one we worshiped in Manhattan closed. The owner’s kids didn’t want to go into the family restaurant business. They shut down and since then, we have been seeking the Holy Grail, um, I mean a Greek restaurant. Disappointment after disappointment. Beyond depressing. Then magic happened. We found Kalimera and walked in. In the dark and dreary shadows of New Haven, Kalimera is super bright and cheerful in its decor. It is very much like being in the blissful sunshine on Greece surrounded by clear blue seas. The music isn’t manufactured jibberish. It’s real and stimulating. Don’t take your antidepressant, you’ll get a natural, spiritual uplift in this place. The menu is exciting because it isn’t always the same old things. If Chef Evangelos Topalidis can’t find every single ingredient he needs fresh to make the dish, it is not offered. He refuses to substitute in inferior ingredients. You have to be dead not to taste the difference. This man has integrity. For example, his sardines hail fresh from the Mediterranean, not from massively overproduced Portugal. His warm fava bean appetizer is so delicious you will seal your mouth permanently against ever eating that bland mush other places serve as hummus. ( what is it anyway, paper towels ?) The eggplant appetizer is fresh and vibrant with that smoky undertone we all crave. As carnivores and vegetarians we equally wolfed down the vegetarian meatballs LIKE MANIACS. Bet you have never, ever tasted anything like them in your life! The stuffed eggplant was by far the best eggplant we ever had ( and that includes the one we loved in Morocco). For dessert we had baklava and kataifi. Yes, they were decadent and no they were not made off premises. The chef himself is also his own pastry chef! Who knew?!!Chef Topalidis was born and raised in Greece. The menu dishes are all from his family. In New Haven, sitting right under your nose, you have a real Greek serving you the food generation after generation have eaten on their own tables. His parents come from two different parts of Greece so therefore in Kalimera, you get the incredible blending of traditional food served under one roof. Fani was our server. She was wonderful. Cheerful, respectful, helpful when asked, she appeared and disappeared as all excellent servers should. Lovely person. Super cheap, convenient parking is steps away at the Temple Street garage, right down the street from the restaurant. Create a plan. Gift yourself and your tribe a meal at Kalimera. We will see you there, cause baby, we found OUR Greek heaven!

Phenomenal, Authentic Greek Food for Carnivores, Vegetarians and Vegans with Easy Parking. Why are there so many empty tables in this place? My husband has been raving about it as a lunch spot, so we finally went together for dinner. It absolutely lived up to his hype. The decor is cheery blue and white reminiscent of the Greek aisles. They offer a standard Greek menu, so it's mostly simple fare, but everything was totally delicious! We had a starter of fried feta cheese in a sesame crust with marmalade, served with a little pita. This blew us away - perfect combo of salty, sweet, creamy and crunchy. Then our souvlaki and gyro platters came and we cleared our plates. I particularly liked their tzatziki sauce. If you live or work in New Haven, definitely give this place a try!

Run, don't walk to this restaurant! Why do people say that? Wouldn't driving to the restaurant be faster than running and isn't that what 95% of us do anyway? So, drive to this restaurant just like you would've done before reading this review, which I guess renders this review pointless. Everything here is seasoned beautifully, so much freaking flavor. Even the fries were seasoned beautifully. The sampler of spreads were all so different and tasty I couldn't choose my favorite if I tried. The gyro platter was charred and smokey just how I like it. Can't wait to be back. The place was pretty empty when I was there for lunch which was surprising and a little concerning. I think its because its in a deadzone and doesnt get much foot traffic. Please support this establishment, I need it to stick around and so does your taste buds. Wish I remembered to take a pic of the food but was too busy shoving this amazing cuisine in my face. Here's a pic of the inside. Deal with it.

We visited Kalimera a while back on a Friday night. The food was excellent (our group got a mix of gyros and souvlaki, and everyone was very happy with their meals). It's very reasonably priced as well. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. We felt rushed: before we had even paid, we were just chatting and they cleared our whole table including our water glasses. When we left, I looked at the hours posted outside, thinking that we had stayed past close, but it was over 90 minutes from closing. Pita was brought over to our table right after we ordered, which we assumed was complimentary since it came alone. 15 minutes later, we got the dips/sauces we ordered, without pita - but by then, our group had already eaten the pita, not knowing that it was part of that order, so we had to order more. Overall, the food made it a worthwhile experience, and I would come again, but there were a few small issues that I hope they can improve on to make for a better dining experience!

The couple who own Kalimera will make you feel as if you are guests in their home. The food has that home-cooked touch, and they gave us glasses of wine on the house. I've been to Greece; this is the real deal. Absolutely coming to this gem again and again.

Absolutely the best authentic Greek (even mediteranean) food in the area. We were in Crete, Greece last summer and Kalimera serves food to rival any we ate in Crete or Athens. It's menu isn't anything fancy but it serves up authentic, delicious greek standard like smoked eggplant spread, fried feta with sesame seeds and jam, grilled oyster mushrooms in olive oil and oregano, and mousaka. They don't have alcohol and so the crowds have been thin there but really it is the underdog gem of the New Haven dining scene.

Amazing!! The food was delicious and so fresh. We can’t wait to go back again! Also it’s BYOB and there is a wine shop right around the corner.

Tasty and conscientiously made Greek food, not greasy or oily. Best Greek food I've had, and I've been eating for years.
