I ate here dining in a few years ago for a friend’s birthday. The food was delicious then and delicious now. I had the steak and shrimp combo on the hibachi side and a shrimp tempura. No complaints here. Juicy steak and flavorful shrimp, I had both noodles and rice that were both equally good. Plus I always love a good ginger salad! Will most definitely plan to eat here again❤️?

Beyond Me

This ranks in my top 5 yet more on the bottom of the list. Great atmosphere and they have a great Playlist ?! The food is good but not great. It's the seasoning...it's just not as flavorful as other hibachi restaurants. Our chef was amazing last week. He had an awesome personality and was very entertaining. The miso soup needs improvement. The shrimp tempura was delicious. Crab Rangoon appetizer was just ok. They do have a parking lot and it is wheelchair accessible!!

0 stars should be an option for google reviews. I dined at Kumo New Haven over the weekend for a friend’s birthday and you couldn’t pay me to go back. Upon arriving, the hostess gave us our menus and said “hurry up and make your selection, it is a Saturday night we are very busy”. We didn’t even have time to look through the menu. Being rushed from the start was the first strike. Secondly, my fiancé ordered a glass of their plum wine on their list of specials and it tasted old and fermented, when she asked the waiter if this wine could be replaced with another choice, the waiter said “yes I can get you something else but you still have to pay for this one”. A glass of wine that has probably sat out opened for a period of time, the customer MUST pay for? Strike 2.Our hibachi chef was also very lackluster. He cooked our food on a high heat so it could cook faster, didn’t clean the grill after, served us and moved on to the next table where he did tricks, sang to the table and also told jokes. It was very noticeable that there was a difference of effort. The third and final strike came about 15 minutes into us eating. The server came over 4 times within 15 minutes asking us if we were finished and if we wanted to go boxes. Nobody even made a dent into their meals. It was very uncomfortable. And a bonus strike came when it was time for the server to collect the bill. We split the bill amongst the 7 person party, the appropriate amount of cash was given as well as debit cards to place payments on. The server shouted loud enough for the entire restaurant to look over at us “NO THIS ISNT RIGHT, YOU HAVE TO PAY FULL BILL”. As if we were trying to short change the establishment. We went over the numbers with the waiter over 7x, showing her that we had the correct amount and in silence she apologized. This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Being the only table with patrons of color, I couldn’t help but feel neglected and ostracized. For the food to be overcooked and have minimal flavor, the service matched this 0/10 effort. Kumo New Haven should be shut down and reopened into an establishment that wants to put maximum effort into cooking great dishes and treating any and all PAYING customers equally.I wouldn’t eat at Kumo New Haven again if I was paid to.

I attended Kumo for a birthday dinner. We dined at the hibachi side of the restaurant, and our experience was awful. If I could give this zero stars I would. Our waiter was very rude and rushed us the entire time. Before we even sat down to order, she told us that we had to hurry up and order because they were busy and needed to have there tables available. The tone was set from the beginning that we were not wanted there. We spent approximately 1 hour at the restaurant because halfway through our meals they were already serving us our to go boxes. We also noticed that our hibachi chef went all out in entertaining and doing tricks for other tables, but did not do the same for us. We were the only table occupied with people of color, and noticed that our chef and our servers went out of their way to entertain other tables and provide excellent service to them but gave us the very bare minimum. Our server also gave us a very hard time with the bill. Their was no issue with the payment, but she went out of her way to make us feel uncomfortable and ostracize us in front of the whole restaurant. Disappointed and uncomfortable is an understatement. I will never return to this establishment.

The 1st time I was here very disappointed with the food and service. The manager was accommodating and gave us a $20 gift card. 2nd visit was much better. The food is okay and service okay. I love their calamari. There is a 20% gratuity that’s added no matter size of group.
