Chef Danilo and Rosanna provide the extraordinary classic Italian dining experience. We were totally blown away with the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairing.
Creative Italian cuisine in a very intimate space. Imaginative plating and a top notch wine list with some unusual options adds to the experience. Would highly recommend a reservation as the dining room has under ten tables. Very special meal with excellent service.
The four of us were greeted warmly & welcomed by Rosanna. Her knowledge & passion for the food & wine made the experience even better. My husband & I split tagliatelle alla Bolognese for an appetizer. The Bolognese sauce was rich, meaty & delicious. The fresh tagliatelle done to perfection. Duck, salmon & branzino were the main dishes. Each delicious & flavorful. The meal was finished with the dark chocolate mousse. It was intensely chocolaty & not overly sweet. What contentment! We highly recommend Strega & look forward to our next meal there
Interestingly, the service was too fast, we were in and out in about an hour, but the temperature of the food was only warm, not hot. Even the after dinner coffee was just warm. The meals are overpriced. $35 for pasta is excessive. Portions were small to average sized, which is ok. It's a small menu. Entrées were good, but not exceptional. The chef's tasting menu might be interesting. They clearly are selling themselves as an upscale restaurant, with crazy shaped but interesting and functional dinner plates. I hope they are successful. We need more fine dining restaurants in New Haven. But at these prices, Union League up the street is a better dinning experience.
Visited Strega before a show at a he Shubert and were wowed by every aspect of our meal. Service was attentive and friendly, tableware was unusual and beautiful, and most importantly, food was excellent! I had a pork dish which was tender and flavorful, my husband had a pasta dish which was excellent, and my son chose beef cheeks which were also delicious. We would highly recommend a visit to Strega if you are in New Haven!
The restaurant is pretty remarkable. Table settings are beautiful and very imaginative/artistic. Food is the main factor and it was unusually good though my fennel/artichoke salad was a little too subtle in its taste (under-salted?) and I would have preferred artichokes cooked on site. I had the carbonara, which I ordered to compare to similar dishes elsewhere. Pasta was cooked to just the right texture. The dish was excellent, though perhaps a little too rich. For dessert we tried tiramisu. It was very good though perhaps lacking in texture variety (ladyfingers too soft) but delicious. Service means little to me and it was fine. Doing the job and not overbearing. These are all minor criticisms, and it is a wonderful restaurant.
Not for my wife and I. The food quality was very good but overpriced with very small portions. The service became annoying watching us and constantly reaching over our shoulders to fill water glasses and to remove empty plates.
Extremely friendly staff especially Roseanne Rosanna, the wife of the chef. Very knowledgeable about the food and the wines. Food descriptions make you want everything. All dishes are created and unique. No issues whatsoever
Fabulous dining experience! The food is amazing and the service incredible. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items. Thank you!
Sprega — An Evening in Rome Each course arrived as a love letter from the kitchen — composed with care, plated with devotion. From the first delicate antipasto to the final whisper of dessert, every flavor spoke of passion, heritage, and mastery. The chef, a true maestro of Italian cuisine, guided our senses through the hills of Tuscany, the coasts of Amalfi, the heart of Rome itself. The pasta was poetry; the sauces, pure soul. Each bite told a story of patience, craft, and deep affection for food as art. The other Chef-wife is the mostess of hostesses, warm and gracious, carried the rhythm of Italy in her smile. Together, the husband-and-wife team created not just a meal, but a memory — one steeped in beauty, intimacy, and joy. Dining at Sprega is not simply dinner. It is a journey — a moment suspended between flavor and feeling.
Do yourself a favor, everybody: go. Let yourself be transported.
All my love and deep respect.

From the moment we walked through the door, our party was treated like food critics. The service was amazing the husband and wife team of chef and maître D/ sommelier were amazing. Our party of four did the tasting menu with wine pairings. The Wines were perfect with each course. The dessert wine was simply amazing. I won't spoil the surprise, but the pasta course was perfect for Halloween. This will be my go to restaurant

Wonderful experience. Very nice contemporary and small restaurant. We were immediately seated when we came in (reservation). Their wine list is small, but had a very nice selection at very reasonable prices. We ordered their only amarone and it was delicious. Their menu is also small, but is very well designed and I wish I could have tried everything. We ordered octopus, carbonara, pasta e patata, and the duck. We loved each and ate every bit. The duck was really amazing. Octopus was perfectly tender. We also shared a light and creamy tiramisu. Finally, limoncello, and some Italian dessert wines which were awesome. We were visiting from FL and eat at a lot of nice places in the US and Europe. This place is a gem!
Great Italian food with creative presentation. The pasta was fresh, and each dish had its own twist.
