Its a binary option; take it or drive around the long way …DUH. The RV ticketing contrast between Cross Sound and Cape May/Lewes is night and day. The Cross Sound Ferry in New London offers a convenient and affordable transportation option for travelers between Connecticut and Long Island. The ferries are well-maintained, with friendly and professional staff who are helpful and coordinated during boarding and debarking, ensuring that the boats run on time. The restrooms are clean, and the interior and deck of the boats are always kept in good condition.
Passengers can enjoy a pleasant experience with surprisingly good food options like the turkey sandwich, rippers, and grilled cheese for six dollars. The ferry also features a "secret" lounge, which is a great spot for those 21 and over, offering draft beer for nine dollars, chicken tenders for nine dollars, and Aperol spritzes for $12. The cabins have plenty of comfortable places to sit, both inside and outside, and some levels offer homemade goodies like black and white cookies and crumb cake. The ferry is especially accessible, with designated parking and elevator access for those with mobility needs. Pets are welcome and have a separate area to enjoy with their owners.
While the ferry provides a reliable and enjoyable journey, some passengers noted that the crew could be more considerate of individuals with disabilities or health issues, especially during boarding. Ticketing for larger vehicles can be more complicated, but overall, the Cross Sound Ferry remains a highly recommended and comfortable way to travel between Connecticut and Long Island.
