I’ve eaten at Doogie’s in Newington for decades. They are known for their humongous 24” hot dogs.
But they really should be known for their incredible Philly cheese-steak sandwiches.
Gina and I went to a well-known diner in Vernon this morning for lunch and split a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. We eat there fairly regularly, and previously everything was great. Not today; their sandwich was dry, had minimum vegetables, and frankly was a disappointment.
The one at Doogie’s was moist, delicious, had plenty of veggies and nacho cheese, and had probably three times the meat compared to the pitiful sandwich from the place in Vernon.
Gina will be disappointed to hear that I ate here along, but I plan on splitting a Doogie’s cheesesteak very, very soon.
Doogie’s easily beats several Philly places including Pats and Geno’s, and probably even Dalessandro’s.
Run, do not walk, to Doogie’s in Newington for your next Philly cheesesteak. It’s worth the drive from anywhere!

Damn these are some delicious dogs! I had the college dog which was... Spectacular. Cool location that seems like it's been here forever, definitely worth a stop in it you love hot dogs!

The place doesn't look like much from the outside or honestly on the inside either. What I can say is that the food is cooked fresh and the staff is very friendly. I ate there twice. The first was a 10-inch hot dog with fries and a free drink. The hotdog had a nice crunch to it. The second time, I had chicken Philly sandwich with peppers and onions, and I chose melted cheese sauce. It is a little pricey, in my opinion, but I think it is worth it. Tuesdays is a 2ft hot dog with free fries and drink. It seems popular as it was a busy Tuesday. It is a great meal to share. I will definitely go back when I'm in time.
