Food tastes great. I went here and got the crispy rice appetizer with tuna and salmon and they were huge and were great. Well worth the money. So a few days later i wanted some at home. Went and picked them up just to find them being less than half the size. (Bite sizes) very disappointed if your gonna make these one way you should probably stick to it or lower your prices on takeout…

I used to love this restaurant but I won't purchase take out anymore from here. I cannot believe how different the roll is to the picture in their site. I am so disappointed... the price is high for this small container of sushi... they didn't even add the shrimp tails. Other restaurants would add them in the container as well. It is a whole roll you paying for after all. The Naruto roll also has shrunk!

The waitress is not professional and rude. We come to pay for eating and serving. Not for bagging. And waiting really long for the food

“amazing, show-stopping spectacular -gimmie 14 of them”
Tiktok was not wrong, and this place is super high quality rolls. The togo business is steady and all the rolls were immaculate.
online menu pictures were a great help in picking out what I wanted to try ahead of time. Traveled here from the shoreline. Thank you California Sushi team 😍😍💜

Such a romantic lunch date for my husband and I. We ordered SO much food but with the lunch specials they offer it still was under $100! We left happy and had some leftovers for our pups.

My partner and I drove 50 minutes to this restaurant early Thursday evening to celebrate his birthday. He’s a huge sushi fan, and with all the overall great reviews, we were excited to try something new. I casually mentioned to both the hostess and our server that we were celebrating his birthday, not expecting anything special, just hoping for a pleasant evening. No one acknowledged it, but we brushed it off and kept the mood light.
In the beginning, things seemed okay. We were checked on several times while we looked over the menu, and our food came out relatively quickly… actually, almost too quickly. We barely got into one dish before the next came out, and then another after that. It felt rushed and out of sequence, but thankfully our table was large enough to hold everything. We didn’t complain, we just nibbled our way through all the things we ordered, which was quite a bit.
But the moment the check arrived, the service completely disappeared.
I paid in cash (something I rarely do) and left a very generous tip. And then… nothing. Not once did our server return. Not to confirm the payment, not to offer change, not to say thank you, not even to acknowledge that we were still sitting there. Had I paid with a card, we would have been stuck there waiting indefinitely.
We waited for a disrespectfully exorbitant amount of time, so long that I genuinely lost track of how long we were sitting there before we finally just got up to leave. We kept glancing over, shifting in our seats, giving small waves, trying anything to get someone’s attention. Meanwhile, several staff members were gathered by the chefs’ area, talking or watching something on the TV. The restaurant was not busy, so there was absolutely no excuse.
Exhausted from the day, knowing we had work early the next morning and a long drive back, we finally put on our coats, grabbed my leftovers, and walked all the way to the door still without one single word from anyone staff member. No thank you, no goodnight, no acknowledgment at all. Only when I said, “Have a good night, thank you,” as we exited the premises did someone give a slight wave/acknowledgment. My partner even told me afterward that I shouldn’t have said anything because we definitely didn’t receive that courtesy from them.
We left feeling completely disregarded. What was supposed to be a fun birthday celebration ended up becoming a quiet, dry, sober, disappointing rest of the evening once we got home. The entire mood was ruined.
As someone who previously worked in the service industry, as a collegiate student, I always tip generously and treat staff with respect. But in this case, the service simply did not deserve it. And the complete lack of basic customer courtesy towards the end of our time there made the entire night feel like a waste.
For these reasons, I do not recommend this restaurant, and we will not be returning.

Absolutely delicious. Stand outs were the crispy rice and the miso soup but everything was fantastic. Staff was kind, accommodating, and generous. Look forward to returning to try more of the menu.

Quaint spot in Newington, CT. Found it by chance while attending an out of town evening soccer game. My wife is a Shushi lover, I do not eat Shushi. Now we visit Sushi California about every 2 weeks for dinner, my wife enjoys the made to order variety of Shushi options, while I enjoy the variety of non-Shushi options. Busy place. They take reservations, but walk-ins are always welcome. The food is excellent. The servers are great and they always remember you. My wife says it's the best Shushi, and she's had plenty. They are closed on Sundays. We always try mid-week as well as Fridays or Saturdays.
