Drove 45 mins and found out the place close down
Wow! The food is over the top amazing. By far, the best jerk chicken around. I recommend calling your order well in advance because the secret is getting out and they're hustling to keep up. However, the food is well worth the wait.

Drove 30 mins and the lady wasn’t able to serve my family for dine in or take out. There was no point of even being open. She was very unprofessional when speaking to us, while eating a plate of food at the counter and having a personal video call with someone else. This was the worst customer service experience.

Food is very tasty and you know it’s made with love. Presentation is always on point even when it’s a take out.
Was the worst Caribbean restaurant we been to we waited 2 hours on the food. And then they charged extra for coleslaw and it didn’t say it on the menu. It clearly said 2 sides with the entree. No one apologizes and the meal portions are very small i mean you get 3 pieces of oxtail for $26. And majority of the jerk chicken was burnt now we have to go find something else to eat.
I realize you replied stating we didn’t wait so we attached the photos with the time stamps above.
We arrived at the restaurant at 4:02 pm

I went here last night. Everything was GOOD, down to the mango passion fruit rum punch and I got the oxtails with rice and peas and mac and cheese. The juice was fresh and soooo flavorful. The oxtails were super juicy and I loved the sauce. My sides were delicious. The service was great and customer service A-1. I will deff be coming back here more often. The owners are super friendly and personable. The best Carribbean food I’d had in awhile honestly.

We were visiting my brother from a summer program and on our way to New York. When we were driving down Rte. 5 around the evening, we were delighted to see Island Cho and decided to take a peek. Best detour ever. When we walked in, the smell of the food and the cool atmosphere greeted us warmly. We took our seats and the menu had anything you could need in Caribbean cuisine — oxtail, curry goat, curry lamb. All the meals were delicious, warm, and fresh. It was the cherry on top being able to meet Gillian, the boss behind it all. Her kindness and attention to detail took the dining experience above and beyond. I’m going to keep it a buck, but all I am going to say is this: You have to dine at Island Cho.

My family and I recently stopped by Island Cho Caribbean Cuisine for lunch, and let me tell you—it was easily one of the best Caribbean meals we’ve had in Connecticut!
We kicked things off with some fried plantains, and they were perfect—crispy on the edges, tender inside, and full of natural sweetness. Everyone at the table loved them!
For our mains:
• I had the curry shrimp with dhalpuri roti, potato, and channa—so flavorful and cooked to perfection.
• My wife had the curry chicken with the same sides, and she loved every bite.
• My sister and her husband both ordered the curry goat—his came with buss up shut (roti), and hers with rice and peas. Both were perfectly seasoned and tender.
• My daughter had the Rasta pasta with jerk chicken—creamy, spicy, and delicious.
• My nephew had the jerk chicken quesadillas, which were bursting with bold flavor and a total hit.
Everything tasted incredibly fresh and clearly made with care. The staff was friendly and attentive, and even though there was a bit of a wait, it was totally worth it—especially with the great music and vibrant atmosphere setting the vibe.
One of the highlights of our visit was getting to meet the owner, who introduced herself along with her kids. They were all so lovely, welcoming, and down-to-earth—it truly added a special, personal touch to the whole experience.
If you’re short on time, I’d recommend calling ahead, since everything is made fresh to order. We’ll definitely do that next time when we’re looking for amazing food without the wait.
If you’re anywhere near North Haven and love Caribbean cuisine, Island Cho is a must-visit. Great people, great vibes, and unforgettable food. We’ll definitely be back!

The oxtail was one of the best oxtails I’ve had. The owner was very pleasant and personal in her introduction. I loved to hear the meaning of all the butterflies and the story behind the name and the inspiration. God bless her and her family! 🥰😍
