I’ve been eating here for years and always more or less enjoyed the food. I bought some pork fried rice to bring home back in sept. Got it home and opened it up and proceeded to take a couple of bites when I almost busted my tooth on something hard. It ended up being a piece of cement! I called it in and I’m sure it was an accident so I wasn’t really mad just grossed out. Instead of refunding me they said bring in your receipt next time and we’ll take care of it. I stopped in today and re explained what happened because it’s been a while. Instead of refunding me what I paid they gave me a discount on what I bought today. I didn’t argue, I don’t want to make a scene. Trying to be polite and civilized and there was a lot of customers there I didn’t want to make a big deal. I got the food home and it was not as good as before. Soggy very salty oily egg roll and soggy very salty pork fried rice.
Take care

Ordered grub hub. Food was disgusting. No flavor. Ribs were dry and dumplings were stuck together .

This is a charming little restaurant with really tasty food and a very accommodating staff. It has become my family's to-go spot when we're in the lower Connecticut area. Fried dumpling and scallion pancake appetizers are lovely. Their grilled shrimp with bok choy is a delightful surprise with several types of veggies and fruits along with green Shanghai bok choy. It's my favorite dish. Their recently expanded menu includes chicken with eggplant and a highly delicious version of fried rice cakes. The rice cakes come with chicken and you can add shrimp and/or pork to it, if you like. We added pork. In several visits, the only dish we did not enjoy was mushu pork – neither the ingredients nor sauce for it were very good so we'll just skip that item in the future.

I've eaten here a lot over many years. Over the last year or so the food quality has gone down and the prices have gone way up. $15 for a basic fried rice? Yeah No. Ate a dish the other day that had so much MSG in it I was drooling and sweating for a good half hour. It used to be such good food and good value. $90+ for Chinese takeout is just crazy.

Excellent spot! Food is awesome in my honest opinion. It's like traditional Chinese but cleaner.

Okay conspiracy theory: another restaurant paid for fakes, “review bombing” this place. So many of the 1-star reviews have the same sort of grammar, buzz words, etc. written by reviewers with no pictures and 5-10 posts. So I don’t buy it. Neither did my family, we only eat Chinese here.

Village gourmet is such good Chinese takeout. I wouldn’t trust the review bombers.

Food has gone WAY downhill! Won’t be back anytime soon! Tastes like it’s cooked yesterday and just warmed up. Been going there 20+ years. Likely won’t be back!

The steamed vegetable dumplings are thin, tender and delicious - unlike the thick doughy unpleasantness you find in most Chinese restaurants in the Fairfield Cty. Outstanding food at Village Gourmet!

Vegetarian options: Sesame noodles, mixed veg, broccoli & carrot, steamed or fried vegetable dumplings, veg spring rolls , brown rice and more - add tofu if you desire - steam or pan fried options.

Village Gourmet is hands down my favorite Chinese food restaurant. They have set the bar so high for me that I use them as the standard when eating at other Chinese food restaurants. I love their sesame chicken and steam dumplings. Honestly though all their food is good. I highly recommend Village Gourmet and giving them five out of five stars.
