Which unfortunately has more in common with similar communities out west or Marfa Tx or inner-state, and offers little else in comparison to Essex, Old Saybrook or Mystic which are steps away from coastal New England heaven like Greenwich or Darien. Typically I would stay is Essex, Old Saybrook when in the area which is a relatively more sober and refreshing environment but sometimes that is not an option.Pros; Comfortable riverside environment, Warm genuine service, Ice cold beer, cool jovial bar and excellent approachable comfort food always brings happiness even in critical or emergency situations.

I am very disappointed with my last few experiences with this restaurant. I used to order from here often and the portions were huge and food was reasonably priced. Tonight I paid $55 for two garden salads with chicken and a french dip. The garden salads didn’t even fill up the container they came in. There was barely any lettuce it was not anywhere near worth the price for a salad.

Very nice place. We always stop for dinner here after our Events at the Florence Griswald art museum. We were cold and wet from being rained out today. Had Hot Chocolate and an Excellent Seafood Bisque followed by the Flounder and Chips dinner. 2 large pieces of Flounder, I could not finish it in one sitting.

I found it to be somewhat dark in some areas of the restaurant but it was a gloomy day. It had a lovely outdoor patio with gorgeous hanging plants but was not a good day for dining Al fresco. The lobster rolls were quite good but I was disappointed in the haddock with red cabbage and potato pancakes that I chose. Cabbage brown and overcooked, the fish was dry and potato pancakes were soggy, frozen hash browns in disguise. I’d recommend it but with reservations, depending upon your food choice. Service was good. Table was kind of small for the four of us.

Wow, is what we experienced at this hidden gem of dinning at Hideaway Restaurant & Pub!!!!My husband, Michael and I were particularly looking for a local best at a new place where we would enjoy after our regular hang out at Rocky Neck beach state park. And we have found It here!!!Cindy answered the phone each time I called to make reservation for 2 then called back to move it up since we backed up early and got hungrier than we thought.We chose to sit at the bar for a good view of the whole place and the outdoor marsh. Kristen, our excellent server, greeted us and promptly getting everything we requested.Do get New England clam chowder, seafood bisque, calamari, Ceasar salad, whole bellies clam dinner, wild salmon dinner and Haddock dinner. Yes, there were only 2 of us but I could not pass up whole bellies in season while enjoying my wild Salmon dinner. There was no room for desserts so you are on your own there.To have gotten the best food, with exceptional friendly attentive service, cold beer serve with a glass from the freezer and the relaxing ambience were all met and exceeded our expectations. We will be back for more when we go to our favorite beach again.Thank you, Kristen for exceptional dinning experience. Our hats are off to your awesome chef as well! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐???????

1st time at Hideaway. I'm from out of town, in area for 10 days,so just looking for a decent meal. Delightfully surprised. Ordered bowl of New England Clam Chowda & in my opinion outstanding - in fact best ever. Will be back just for their Chowda - crazy good. Had Fisherman Platter - bay scallops, classic, & flounder fried w rice & broccoli- all excellent. Kristin did great job as server - very attentive & busy. Dinner was very good portion was huge, not only scallops & clams next to flounder; but all over underneath it. Prices were very reasonable, especially for the high quality. Will be back.
