Pearl East has been a staple of the Stamford Chinese restaurant scene. My experience there has been mixed—some dishes are authentic in flavor, while others are just oddly off the mark.
This ‘honey walnut shrimp’ is one example. In my 30+ years of eating Chinese food in the U.S., I’ve never seen the dish prepared this way. It’s usually done with white creamy mayo and served dry, rather than the soupy sweet ‘n sour way.
