It was pretty classic the service was the worst it’s ever been here just slow. Clearly understaffed. The food was good though it always is.
Parking: Parking is never an issue here.

Rein’s food is absolutely delicious, and the host and waitstaff are lovely. However, I had a manager speak very rudely to me, and basically called me a liar. I thought the other people in my party were literally right behind me, which is what I told the hostess. As she sat me, she asked for clarification and I explained that we had been texting. So she explained the policy was that you were not seated until all guests were on the premises. I apologized and said they should be right here. Unfortunately, they were not and a manager came to my table and asked if I was waiting for people. I said yes and she said I had to get up from the table and go to the waiting area until they arrived. I totally understand that and am only writing this because she could have handled the situation nicely but was very rude. I tried to explain that the hostess was aware of the situation and she responded by saying “you did not have this conversation with the waitress”. Essentially calling me a liar. At that point, I told her to go ask the hostess if we had indeed discussed it and said that I would give up the table. She then backtracked a bit and said that I would not go to the end of the line, but the damage was done. There are ways to handle difficult situations and berating me like I was a lying is not the way to treat customers.

This New York style deli offers a wide variety of fresh, tasty and classic dishes. Service is warm and friendly. Great pit stop between New York and Boston! But remember to watch your New York humor - this is not New York.

I’m absolutely appalled by our recent experience at Rein's Deli in Vernon, CT. My husband and I have been loyal customers for many years, but after what we witnessed, we will never return.
During a recent visit, we sat next to a man celebrating his birthday who was nothing but polite and charming. He complimented our waitress in the most respectful and positive manner, telling her that her name in Hebrew means mother. She smiled and walked away.
Out of nowhere, the female manager approached his table and accused him of making inappropriate remarks to the waitress.
It was shocking to see someone who has been a loyal patron for over a decade treated so disrespectfully as he was being so very kind.
The manager was unprofessional and refused to clarify what exactly was deemed inappropriate, instead threatening to call the police. This man, an Israeli-American with a reputable background, stood up for himself against her baseless accusations, leading to a highly uncomfortable and distressing situation for everyone in the restaurant.
What kind of establishment harasses and defames a customer without cause? It left us wondering if there were underlying issues at play—there's no way a Jewish deli should treat someone from Israel with such disdain.
FYI - this deli is not Jewish owned and is not Kosher. Kosher restaurants don't serve cheese and meat together. Jewish delis close on Yom Kippur.
Jewish delis do not allow anti-semitism.
This whole incident was not only embarrassing but also an outright display of cruelty. If their pastrami is the price for such public insults, it’s definitely not worth it. I sincerely hope the affected customer takes legal action. Save yourself the trouble and avoid Rein's!

We recently visited Rein's Deli in Vernon, Connecticut, and it was a complete disaster. Let’s start with the prices—overpriced doesn’t even begin to cover it. You’d expect a deli to deliver on quality and value, but instead, I was served greasy, fatty pastrami that could only be described as a culinary crime.
I’ve had better deli sandwiches from a gas station.
But the real kicker? The attitude of the management.
Apparently, some of the staff at Rein’s believe they’re the arbiters of humor. I witnessed an elderly gentleman from New York—who was nothing but friendly and warm—get publicly embarrassed by a female manager for making a harmless joke.
He’d been a loyal customer for over a decade, yet that day, he was treated like a villain for simply trying to share a laugh.
Talk about a betrayal! This man wasn’t being offensive; he was just being friendly, and the management turned a delightful moment into an awkward confrontation.
It’s shocking to see a restaurant so completely out of touch with the very spirit of New York humor. And they call themselves a New York style deli?
Here’s a tip: If you can’t handle a little levity, maybe you should reconsider running a deli. We’re not in some conservative, puritanical bubble here. People come to enjoy good food and good company, not to be shushed and humiliated.
Instead of addressing any misunderstanding, the management chose to defame and embarrass loyal customers.
It’s no wonder that I’ll never set foot in this place again. If you want decent deli food, go anywhere else.
Rein’s can keep its fatty pastrami; I’ll take my business to a place that knows how to treat its customers with warmth and respect.

An authentic NY style Jewish deli or in Connecticut? Sign me up!
I've been to Reins a few times over the years, and the quality, quantity, and service remain consistently excellent. I had the reuben on rye with a side of cole slaw: Sublime!

After many years of passing by Rein's Deli while traveling on Rt84 the wife and I finally stopped in for lunch to go. We both had a craving for a superior Pastrami sandwich and unfortunately we were more then disappointed. We got two of the over stuffed ones which had plenty of meat, but the Pastrami was not very tender. Much more tough and chewy than it should be for a place that is supposed to have a following for high quality products. In addition, we took home a Chicken Pot Pie to have for dinner and it was just OK. Good flavor with veggies, but the key ingredient - Chicken - was missing. Overall, we were disappointed after all the hype.

Came on a Sunday at lunch time. Wildly busy, but worth the wait. Ordered the First cut pastrami Ruben; 5 out of 5! Perfectly toasted and buttered bread, decent amount of meat, and most delicious pickle. Only regret was ordering one :(

We love Rein’s and stop there for lunch every time we head to NY. I dive into a couple pickles first and then usually the corned beef hash with an egg on top. My wife has the fantastic chicken pot pie. Love the place!!!

The food is still great (at least the 3 items that are vegan friendly on the menu) but the service has not been "warm" the last few visits. For starters the servers have no clue what vegan means or know their menu, furthermore they didn't bring out everyone's food at the same time or ask if that's desired leaving some customers waiting. It's a busy place, but would be a nicer stop for travelers if there's a bit of nicer vibe from servers. Ps please add more vegan friendly options such as vegan cream cheese, vegan cheese for sandwiches, and tofu scramble.
