“One of my favorite places to play music, hear music and beg Sarah for a bloody Mary. This is a great dive bar and they are really respectful to musicians. I mean, they held on to our gear long after we were supposed to pick it up and the staff stressed over its safety even more than I did. They show a lot of love to the local music scenes, having live shows every weekend. You will also not hear cover songs there, ever. And that's amazing. Every single song played is original. The bands are a mix of touring and local bands and the sound is really raw. I like that these are not "polished" mainstream, commercial musicians. Turn on Spotify or drop your entire wallet at the Oakdale if you want to hear that. I can go there alone and still feel completely safe, and I'm a petite woman with zero ninja skills, so that's a huge relief for me. The staff is really cool and they make some really tasty drinks. Don't expect posh seating or new anything; it's a dive bar! But one really nice feature of this particular bar is IT'S CLEAN. I know Sarah works incredibly hard to keep the place spotless and germ-free. The bathrooms are even clean! Dennis, Holly and Sarah are awesome and they run a really fun place.“
“My son and grandchildren enjoy visiting his place usually on weekends. Imple snack food, hot dogs, etc for menu, a bar available, private area pool areas for parties. Never yet needed a reservation, it come early, because the place can get busy.Plenty of parking, wheelchair accessible pleasant staff, excellent tables...“
“Vintage dive bar with surprisingly delicious (and cheap) burgers, which are usually the only thing to eat (other than chips). Sometimes they have brats and hot dogs, which are also tasty. Limited but inexpensive beer selection and a character of an owner/proprietor/grill man. Clearly a place for regulars. Good outdoor seating in back. 4.5/5 stars. Best dive bar in East Rock (well, one of the only ones, but still very good).“
“Modern day Cheers minus the attenuation to hairstyles and conflict resolution. Pool tables are nice, bathrooms'clean, no rotten bar smell, food is typical a bar-style menu, but there isn't a very deep well in terms of spirits; I think Patron is the highest grade of liquor they carry, I could be wrong. Friendly regulars and IRREGULARS make this an ideal bar any day of the week. Pool league, bridge, and other games are played throughout the week. Check it out and take the dive!“
“The wings are so good. We were in town visiting family, and they took us here to try the wings. It's an old establishment with a lot of character. The staff was very friendly and they seated us pretty quickly. We all got wings. They came out hot and covered in sauce. I got the mango habenero sauce, and it was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The wings were large in size, too. An order of 7 was enough to fill me up. They had a good selection of beers, too. Give it a try if you are looking for a historic pub with great food and spirits.“
“This place feels like it hasnt changed in 40 years, and I love it! Definately a bar full of regulars, but the staff is very friendly and welcoming to everyone. Mostly domestic beers, but the prices are very reasonable and they always have Sea Hag on tap, which works for me. Favorite spot in Wallingford to relax and enjoy a beer.“
