Amazing place for beautiful pastries and bread but also a great place to grab a sandwich, had the chicken salad its huge came with pickle and chips will definitely be back

This place is a landmark of the Elmwood section of West Hartford. It has been there for longer than my 68 years. The pastry chef beautifully designs their cakes and pastries. These are to die for actually. Great coffee and conversations happening here over their good coffee. You should stop by and taste

THREE TIMES we went there and specifically asked for a BUTTERCREAM donut and THREE TIMES we were given Bavarian or custard! 🤮 Perhaps the employees should learn the difference and sell people what they ask for. No excuse after this many times.

Review for Elmwood Pastry Shop
I visited Elmwood Pastry Shop today and picked up a variety of items — pastries, donuts, cookies, croissants, and cannolis. Unfortunately, everything I tried had an old, stale taste to it. None of the items were very fresh or flavorful, which was disappointing considering how nice the selection looked. I really wanted to enjoy this bakery, but the quality just wasn’t there during my visit.

Update: the pastry shop was sold recently. On a few occasions the donuts were stale and most likely baked the day or evening prior. Despite the drop in quality, the price increased significantly. A dozen of donuts of the same type went from $12 a dozen to $18 a dozen, simply doubling the cost of half a dozen reducing the incentive to buy more to save money. That rarely have boxes big enough for the donuts so squish them into smaller boxes. As mentioned in another review, everything is now far too sweet and over glazed.

2018: I've been visiting this bakery for years and building a repritour with the staff! The good is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. They offer specific sandwiches of the day and wonderful holiday options.

Elmwood Pastry Shop is a true neighborhood gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the smell of freshly baked everything, cookies, and pastries that immediately make you feel at home. Their selection is impressive everything from classic pastries to seasonal specialties that keep you coming back to see what’s new! A must visit if you are in the area!

The pastries are lovely although a little pricey. This is my take.. would you rather sell 4 or 6 of something when you drop the price by $1.00 or one.?

I absolutely love our local bakery! Their donuts and scones are so delicious! My coworkers get so excited when I bring in their donuts to the office—it really brightens our day. We’re so lucky to have such a sweet treat right here in town!

Stopped in today after eating in the plaza and so happy I did. Pastries all looked delicious and fresh. I got a cakepop and cinnamon bun for myself and a cookie for my son. Girl working in the shop was really friendly and sweet. I will be recommending this spot to everyone I know. 🍰🧁

Cupcakes are terrible. Lady behind the counter said all the cupcakes have filling but found out they didn't when eating one. Will not go there anymore.

I like their grilled scone -bacon, egg n cheese sandwich ( scone is bacon, chive & cheddar )

The coffee is week and awful 🙁
Better coffee would bring in many more customers as they have a nice selection of baked goods
( just don’t go for ☕️)

I stopped by because I had a work meeting in the area. I decided to grab a dozen donuts for the meeting!! They were a hit.... everyone loved them! If you're in the area and looking for a delicious donut, i recommend stopping here!! They also have many different pastries other than donuts!!

Any of you Swedes will not like the Cardamon Braid. They're using a different recipe and it's terrible 😫. No Cardamon flavor and no granular sugar on top. It's a yellow cake with finely ground Cardamon on top. I last got Cardamon braids from there in December and it was good, but not great. I just ordered twelve Tuesday and picked them up yesterday. Got home and found out how bad they are. I called up and they told me it's a new recipe and wouldn't refund me any of my $168. I loved the Viking Bakery recipes for Cardamon and Vort Limpa and had been a customer for fifteen years, but no longer will be.
