Four friends enjoyed a great dining experience at Portobello West Hartford. The manager and staff were very welcoming, and we found the restaurant comfortable and quiet enough for conversation. Drinks, salads and entrees were all good. Generous portions. Recommend the Veal Portobello, clams, lasagna -- delicious and attractively presented.

Portobello is our favorite restaurant. From a chicken parm grinder, to their soups, chicken parm dinner, eggplant Parmesan.everything is delicious. It is a cute, little cozy place, and the staff and owner are all very accommodating for all your wants. The homemade dinner rolls come out hot and crispy to have with their olive oil and herbs for dipping. oh and the best lasagna. we ever had. I thought my lasagna was the best until I had Portobellos!!You won't be disappointed. Give it a try. You won't be sorry!!!!

Disappointing and overpriced lunch. I had a veal parmesan grinder. The veal patty was ground veal, not a veal fillet - I'm pretty sure that it was a commercial frozen ground veal breaded patty that they had fried. Had to ask for water to be refilled. My friend asked for soup - they had none of either soup that was on the menu. She had two small appetizer plates, that were each priced like a full price lunch dish. This place was great when they first opened. I won't be back.

Extremely disappointed with our experience here. We came on Valentine’s Day and there is a pre fixed menu. It took about 30 minutes to get our drinks. The appetizers came out relatively timely, however we were waiting for another hour and a half and still hadn’t received our interest. We politely asked the status of our food - our waiter then informed us that they had ran out of one of the entrees we’ve ordered. It was puzzling why it took them an hour and a half to inform of us this. We told them what we’d like instead, and waited another 30 minutes with nothing. We asked for the bill and said we would pay for what we already had but would like to leave as this service was unacceptable. They told us they would box up our food as they said they felt bad. We got the check and there was no discount, we paid the full price of the menu despite waiting 2 hours for our entrees and having to take them to go. The food was sub par at best as well, and we saw the table next to us send back 2 of their plates. Disappointed to say the least.

Took almost 2 hours to get food and no reasoning as to why. Got charged the full quantity for all the wait, less food than other tables and didn't even get the salmon, one hour later being told they were now out. No communication or empathy for those waiting so long and no reasoning, not a good experience for Valentine's Day.

Had read good reviews so we figured we would give it a shot. Unbeknownst to us, or several other diners, they replaced their regular menu (which we had been looking forward to) with a prix fixe meal at $140 per couple including a choice of one of two bottles of wine. I'm not a big wine drinker so that was a wasted on me. Service was very slow. at least 30 minutes before anyone took our order and the wait staff was not particularly clear on how the prix fixe was going to work. The general impression I got was that there was some issue in the the kitchen as other tables were having protracted waits for their food as well. Considering there were only 2 appetizers or 2 entrees to choose from, it's unclear to me why they were having such an issue. The regular everyday menu is a lot more robust so if this is a chronic issue then that's not conducive to the restaurant's longevity. My wife's stuffed salmon was quite good and the portions were large. My short ribs were tasty enough but the meat was tough and grisly. Our friends at a neighboring table had the same observation on the food. Deserts were terrific and once the entrees arrived, the service did improve to an acceptable level. There are a lot of excellent restaurant choices in West Hartford, Based on our experience, I don't think I would repeat here. Perhaps they are more on their game with the regular menu but I'm not going to risk it.

We were disappointed this time around with Portobello. We have always enjoyed this small family owned restaurant. As proof, this was our fourth time here and most likely not our last visit. We made our reservations from Open Table and were not made aware that there would be a Prix Fix menu for Valentines Day. We were surprised by the limited menu and wine options available. Our meals were good, however we had a different menu selections in mind when we originally selected this restaurant. We were more surprised with the slow waiter services this time! I had to call the waiter over three times. The table runners were awesome and helpful. All in all, not the best experience this night.

5 of us came here before a 730 curtain at nearby park road playhouse. Cozy ambience. Food: delicious apps fried mozzarella. Portobello mushrooms 2 in our party enjoyed their popular eggplant lasagne entrees. My veal parm was excellent. Another ordered prime rib special. Was cold so she sent it back. Came back hot but tough. Wasn't charged for it Service: trying but just not professional. Never offered us dessert or coffee - after telling them we had to get to the show we were told no problem , but then no efficiency. Or real attempt to help us relax and feel like we were really taken care of. But at the end of the day the food was really excellent. (Prime rib fiasco was just one of those things that happens sometimes. A more caring place would have brought out a complimentary something perhaps to entice you to return. )(?) Good food as I said. Really really good. .
