the food was good. i got the big boy breakfast, the philly cheesesteak eggrolls, the potato pancakes, the crispy chicken cutlet sandwich & fries and a western sandwich. everything was good until we bit into the second half of the chicken cutlet sandwich. it was raw inside and automatically made us sick. we doordashed it so ofc we weren’t able to bring it back or let the staff know.
The place is warm and fun, the tables are full, the staff is great and the service is excellent. The food is not the type we like. It could be only our taste.

Their coffee is very good and unique. I would recommend people to check that out in the least.

I have been going to Duchess for 20 plus years on the Boston Post Rd. I went thru the drive thru at 430 on Friday the 19th of July. I was greeted by a very nasty attitude from the girl at the drive thru. I was giving my ordered and had not finished but she told me I was finished that what I wanted to drink. I explained that I was not finished telling her about how I wanted the food she began to argue with me. I drove off and made an even bigger mistake by going inside. I ordered my food and explained to the manager my explained. He could of cared less. He defended her and I soon realized that I was getting nowhere. I received my food and it was a burnt burger and undercooked onion rings. My relationship with duchess in orange CT is done. Good luck if you eat there.

Imagine this: you’re starving going down 95 from the city. You had a long day at work and the wife is on the phone “come home Jeff the kids miss you”. Little does she know I know she’s been doing additional & intimate visits to her yoga teacher, Peters yoga studios. You need some time to decompress and think about your life and what better way to do this then go to a local diner. You look up on your phone “diner near me” and you find the duchess. You park in the middle of the parking lot, stomach rumbling, you drop your keys when opening the door; you look up and see a classy yet nonchalant cursive sign that says “the duchess”. This reminds you of the time you met your wife in college and how she did not want to be called “the duchess” because it made her seem snobby and stuck up. You thought it was a beautiful nick name that describes a beautiful elegant woman like a woman you wanted to marry. A tear sheds and you proceed to walk into the duchess not knowing what to expect but hopeful, and a little adventurous. Ron J walks over to you, “how’s it going my friend welcome”. His warm embrace makes me feel a bit better about myself. You lie to him and say “ I’m doing great man” Ron’s a bit slow and his eye sight is definitely shot but he wants to deliver, he wants to be there for you. He takes the order slowly but surely and ensures the clam chowder is great with the chicken parm. You order a cool beer on a hot day He brings me hot warm bread, that reminds you of the bread my mother made when you was a kid. You sigh and anticipate the food will actually be great for once after work. Life is finally looking up. You thank Ron J and head out the door. You sit in your car thinking about the duchess and how it’s a metaphor for life in general. It doesn’t matter how others make you feel, you have to embrace life one step at a time and sometimes you need a duchess in your life to fully embrace the craziness of the universe.

This is one of my wife and I favorite places to go in West Haven for a great meal. Today I had a Nashville, hot chicken sandwich and she had an open faced roast beef sandwich. I absolutely loved my Nashville hot chicken roast. Beef sandwich was also quite good.
This is definitely a diner that you should try out if you’ve never been here before, and if you have been here, then you know, it’s a great place to go

This is one of the few good old fashioned diners in the area. The owner was cordial. The menu is that of a typical diner, offering breakfast, lunch & dinner items. I ordered the hot pastrami on rye bread with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo & mustard. No sauerkraut or reuben for me, thanks. I love the kosher dill pickles on the side. They offer a wide variety of desserts. I noticed that there was a cocktail bar and cute little candies and after dinner mints.

We had breakfast here and the food was good. Great portions and price. We had turkeybacon omelets with spinach and cheese, pancakes, grits, hashbrowns and French toast. The French toast didn't have much flavor but everything else was good. Traditional diner feel. The service was timely and waitress was courteous. The owner walks around, says hello and sees if everything is okay.

Horrible owners. I’ve been coming here for YEARS. They over cooked my eggs horribly and I had to beg for the money back because I didn’t want a new order. They rather argue than take accountability. They yell at their employees in front of customers. I won’t be returning
