Absolutely our favorite meal of our last visit to DC. This is Mexican-inspired food at its finest. Smallish place, a bit dark, a few street parking spots, recommend taking the Metro or rideshare. Service is very good. The food is imaginative, but heavily influenced by Mexican tradition. Execution is excellent. My wife had perfectly cooked fish in a lovely dark mole sauce. We ordered extra housemade blue corn tortillas to soak up the left over mole. I ordered the potato tacos off the day's specials menu. That was fabulous. The mix of flavors, textures, and whatever else was going on was unbelievable. Our son and his wife had a mushroom dish that they were raving over. More tortillas, please. Our server let is slip that they were awarded a Michelin star recently, and were just waiting for it to be officially announced.

Delicious food and great service. I wish Amparo Fondita would relocate to my neighborhood so I could go every day.

We decided to go to Amparo Fundita based on its recent addition to the upcoming Michelin Guide. Long story short, this is a place that it’s working out a lot of kinks. We reserved the tasting menu ahead of time and I contacted them on Instagram to figure out the price since it wasn’t listed on the website or Resy. I didn’t hear back from them so I figured we’d find out when we arrived. We asked the hostess and she had to check with someone. We were sat and waited awhile to be checked in with. We asked about the details of the tasting menu and she shared that it was $97 and six courses. We said we needed to discuss and waited to order drinks. We then waited awhile for her to return. We decided to give it a try. The first dish was oysters, which were too salty, the second dish was scallops, which had too much lime. Our next dish was the sopesitos, which was a highlight, but on the regular menu. We were then served a mushroom dish that had a great sauce, but was a bit much on the mushroom front. Our main was a stuffed pepper. We had told the waiter that one person in our party had a peanut allergy, but this dish had peanuts in it. We let them know and they were extremely apologetic and brought an adapted version of the dish which was actually better than the first(three of us tried the other version). Last was a tres leches cake, which was solid, but their version of it didn’t add much too the original. They did comp the two cocktails we ordered for the peanut mistake. If that was the only issue and the food was amazing I would have gladly given them five stars, but overall everything just fell flat. Looking at the regular menu, we should have done that, and I’d be curious to try it, but our list of restaurants to try in D.C. is too long for us to try that any time soon.

We got the two different tacos on their 2024 summer brunch menu. Both exceeded our expectations. Though pricy, definitely worth trying. Cactus salad and chilaquiles were also pretty tasty! Ceviche was ok, not my favorite

Food was great and we loved the flavors, was spicy!
Service was very slow and took 45 mins after our reservation time started before we had something other than water on our table.
Be ready for the price as well - $29 for chips and 3 salsas/guac.
All tasted good, just a bit pricey for what service and food you're getting.

I was disappointed in Amparo. Off the bat I let them know I had a nut allergy and they said only two things on the menu had nuts and did not mention any of the mole dishes..the waiter never followed up or checked in about any of the dishes she brought over. They never brought me the drink I ordered and brought over a mole dish by mistake (instead of something we actually ordered). The service was also very slow. The food was just okay and honestly the only thing that stood out to me was the chips, salsa and guacamole. I think Tiki Taco next store has more flavorful dishes at half the price ??♀️ The restaurant was pretty but the lighting was off and they all the sudden starting playing music at like 9:15pm. Overall for the price and the hype I didn’t think it was worth it.

I had high expectations for Amparo, especially given its Michelin recommendation, but our experience was disappointing. Service was slow and disorganized. It took 45 minutes to get our drinks, which arrived after our appetizers. No one checked on us for a while, so our main food order was placed nearly 50 minutes in, and even then, part of it was incorrect. The food itself was unremarkable, which was surprising given the cost. Overall, it didn’t live up to the hype, and I actually really wouldn’t recommend it based on our experience.

Wow, it's hard to pinpoint the best part of the dining experience. Came here with my wife and we had the most amazing time. The service as soon as we walked in was warm and welcoming. I don't remember her name, but she was a Latin female with glasses. She instantly started taking care of us. We got to our seats quickly and she broke down the menu like she was one of the actual chefs. It led to us ordering some of the best mexican food we have gotten in the DMV. Definitely will be back!

The host and waitress were very nice. The chilaquiles were DELICIOUS! I added the Carne asada abd Sunnyside up egg to my order. Fresh ingredients and great presentation. Ambiance is light and refreshing. I would also come to this place for a nice coffee or tea.

We had an incredible meal at Amparo Fondita - one of the best meals I've had in DC this year. Every single dish was a delicious modernized take on Mexican food. The sopesitos with carne asada was a real standout. Drinks were also all fantastic. The service was phenomenal - the staff were really friendly and attentive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Amparo Fondita. It was my first time there and I was so pleasantly surprised with everything from the attentive and friendly staff, to the quality of the food, and the ambiance in general. We had a good mix of dishes including a ceviche, tacos de carne, tacos de pescado, platano tatemado, sopesitos, and everything was excellent. We will definitely return whenever we're craving authentic Mexican food. I wanted to also try the chile en nogada but there was no way we could possibly eat more.

Food is out of this world. But service is just bizarre. Server left halfway through dinner without saying anything; then no service at all.
