Astoria DC Reviews
Too many rules and extremely over priced.
The moment you walk in, you realize that this place is special. From the attentive and courteous hosts to the richly-appointed intimate seating that is at once welcoming and comfortably exclusive, you instantly feel at home. Astoria DC offers a variety of dishes, particularly known for their spicy options and Szechuan cuisine. The water boiled fish is a highlight, made with high-quality ingredients and authentic spices. Vegetarians and vegans can also enjoy a selection of dishes, including vegan noodles that are delicious and slightly spicy, as well as tofu and impossible beef options. The restaurant features a rustic railroad style and a cozy, speakeasy atmosphere with a charming vibe that is great for sharing dishes. It is a popular spot, often busy and requiring reservations, especially on weekends or during peak hours, with some outdoor seating and bar tables available for walk-ins. The menu is extensive, with notable dishes like braised pork belly, Little noodle (very spicy and a little soupy), Dan Dan noodle (dry with peanuts, less spicy), mapo tofu, lah-zi chicken, and crab fried rice. The cocktail program is impressive, offering a great selection, and the bartender makes some really great-looking cocktails that are sure to taste good. The staff is attentive and friendly, working hard to provide good service even on busy nights. The ambiance is beautiful and perfect for photos, though some find the smell lingering a bit and the menu a little difficult to read. Overall, Astoria DC is a recommended destination for those seeking flavorful and authentic Chinese dishes in a lively setting, with consistent quality and a lively atmosphere that makes it one of DC’s go-to spots for Chinese food.
