The service was outstanding. Made me feel very welcome and valued! And fresh seafood is the best!
Restaurant week special 3 courses for $34. Lots of servers and managers walking around making themselves available to fulfill diner's needs. I wanted fried clams - no substitutions from set menu - was able to have that dish in addition to.
Had not been in quite awhile but some friends and I went for Restaurant Week and had such a good time! Delicious food, great service and longtime friends! Perfect afternoon!
I was totally underwhelmed by this restaurant! While the service and servers were outstanding the food did not meet my expectations!: The wine was overpriced but good The shrimp tempura was abhorrent, old and stale and greasy tasting; it was more like very bad fried shrimp from a third rate early morning take out , the sesame sauce that accompanied it was so salty I couldn't eat it ; we were not charged for it; the scallop appetizer was acceptable but way overpriced; the branzino (grilled was good but the beets and truffle puree were sour. I did not finish my meal. The pricing ( value) was not commensurate with other restaurants offering fresh seafood dishes. It's a “no” for me.
While it has been years since I visited BlackSalt, I had previously lived close to the restaurant when it first opened. The food and service has only improved in my opinion. I suspect that Restaurant Week can cause many restaurants to be overwhelmed with diners, and this stress can lead to hiccups in service and food preparation. From the moment we were greeted at the hostess stand, the service provide was beyond excellent. The entire staff works as a team and would come/go from our table as if knowlingly carefully rehearsed, working in concert, to perfection- and again, it was Restaurant Week- if there is any reason to be "in the weeds" and slip, this week would be a perfect excuse. Our server was attentive to our needs, the GM was helping out and frequently inquired as to our needs and the food was FANTASTIC. We can't wait to go back and try other things from their menu and are kicking ourselves for waiting so long for a repeat visit. We won't be making that mistake again- we can't stress enough how important it is for other diners to visit for the dining and culinary experience that is BlackSalt!
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I went because they participated in DC's Restaurant Week for lunch. I chose it among many other restaurants because the lunch menu choices looked great. In fact, all three courses were delicious. I went as a solo female diner. I had asked my waiter when he took my order to leave the menu so I could decide on a drink later. My waiter never returned to take my drink order. I decided to forego having a glass of wine and just have coffee with the dessert. However, not one waiter looked at me for the 5 minutes my hand was up. The table of 4 next to me did get wonderful attention by waiters. For me, however, no one asked me how my meal was. I finally flagged down someone to order a coffee. I was also disappointed that there was a credit card charge. I looked at their website when I returned home and never found text mentioning that extra charge. How can customers make an informed decision to bring cash if we don't know about a credit card surcharge before hand? It really is uncommon for DC customers to carry large amounts of cash these days.
A wonderful spot for fresh fish and a relaxing family outing. It has cozy and casual atmosphere. We like to select our own fish and specify the way we want it prepared.
While the menu changes occasionally to keep things interesting, the consistent quality of the fresh fish is always the primary reason to visit.

Great dishes, the truffle emulsion on the branzino is phenomenal. The stone crab claw was a little underwhelming but still nice
Service was great. Lovely lunch- no complaints.

We retired from NY to DC in 2018!
We love this restaurant so much …. Our favorite were their fish tacos and the Clam Chowder! We went for lunch yesterday, 12/21/2025
We were so disappointed with the tacos…. Three different sauces on top ….. no good! It was very clean simple cripy and delicious! Why!!!!!! You only need Chopped Avocado/ and shredded cabbage…. And delicious fish!
Thank God the Clam Chowder was still delicious!

Outstanding service. Very attentive to patrons and answered all of our questions and made recommendations. Only place in DC that serves Ipswich fried clams. Would highly recommend.
Love our special dinners at Blacksalt. The red snapper was melt in your mouth delicious and the grain salad was a perfect healthy choice we chose to split and it was perfect as well. Always have outstanding service and food at Blacksalt !
What a wonderful lunch! The greeting and service is warm and welcoming. The food is always a delight- we loved the cornbread, hummus, branzino and steak frites. Yum! Then the chocolate cake, apple streudel, coffee and espresso were a perfect end to our lunch! Highly recommend!
Wonderful from start to finish Oysters, Ipswich fried clams, wood grilled Branzino, key lime pie
I took my wife there for a birthday dinner. Weve had great experiences at other Blacks locations and anticipated something similar at Black Salt. We weren't disappointed. We opted to split an order of crab cakes which the kitchen accommodated beautifully. Although I knew I couldn't eat more than the one serving, the meal was so good that I really wanted to ask for seconds! The meal was topped off by a tiny, perfect little birthday confection. The service was attentive but not overbearing. It was a wonderful meal and a great dining experience overall.
