Nice new place to meet. Bonus points for walking distant to the Capitol. The eggs were absolutely amazingly delicious - cannot be over praised.

Would recommend to anyone!! The loveliest place, kindest staff, and the food is fantastic. Everything about the place speaks for itself, and each element creates the loveliest environment.
We interacted predominantly with Bart and Dante who went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable, in addition to the restaurant already being lovely.
This is an unpaid advertisement and I’d do it a thousand times over. This restaurant is absolutely Butterworth-it!

One of the best meals I have had in DC, the waiters were attentive, food and drinks were great, good ambience. It was a slower Sunday night I got to talk with the GM briefly, he seemed like a kind person. Looking forward to the next time I can go! Highly recommend for a date, or if you have anyone visiting from out of town. The veal and French 75 were my favorites.
Wheelchair accessibility: Flat entry way, easy access.

Great experience. Out of towners planned on another restaurant, but full. This was second choice and now first choice. Definitely French. We had small plates, but oh so filling. Please add to dinner the butter toast. Had ratiutille and pork bellies

Great new cafe/bistro/restaurant/bar in Capitol Hill. Great food, excellent service, and impeccable vibes. Scratches the itch for a nineteenth century french salon that I didn’t know I had. The staff are incredibly kind and great at their jobs. They let me have order coffee and sit and do some work during their off hours between lunch and dinner. I cannot recommend this place more.

The food is quite good and refreshing. I don’t think there is a single restaurant that does something similar in DC.
My favorites were the puntarelle salad (so good!), skate wing, and pavlova. I like the bone marrow also, but it’s very rich.
Literally steps away from the U.S. Capitol, Butterworth's transports you far from the Nation's Capital to Paris. With an antler chandelier, old picture frames on the walls, and hanging plants on shelves, the decor is impressively French.
My friend and I sat at the bar for drinks only, but their food menu was tempting. (We'll be back.) To drink, they have classic cocktails like a French 75 with bubbly in it and a version of a sour. I found both refreshing, familiar, and inviting.
Service was excellent, especially by Bart, who runs the show. He greeted us with a genuine smile and even asked us how we were doing (and he meant it).
We'll be back!

Butterworth’s is “love it or hate it,” when it comes to the food. Only a true philistine would take issue with the service or the atmosphere (or the coffee). But… the food. It’s polarizing.
We ordered coffee (cappuccino and an americano), the scotch egg and the crepes. Service was great, coffee was superb, and the vibe was, as the kids say, vibing. Then the food came out.
The scotch egg was made with a sausage (the menu doesn’t identify the protein, but most scotch eggs are made with a breakfast sausage of some kind, so it’s a safe bet) and it comes alongside a pepper/onion/garlic garnish, all sitting on top of hollandaise sauce. The sausage was 4/5 gamey, the pepper garnish was solid, and the hollandaise… wasn’t. The sauce was something like hollandaise’s jazzy cousin.
The crepes come with some fruit and maple syrup. But, the crepes came out somewhat rubbery, topped with what I can only describe as “experimental figs,” and the maple syrup was… salty?
But, here’s the thing: Even though I borderline hated the food, I think this is exactly what some people are into. When I bit into the scotch egg and thought, “Wtf, is that sausage made with goat?” Someone else will likely say, “Oh, wow. How unique! I love it.” When I almost gagged on the fig and spat it out, I had the distinct impression that it was probably someone’s favorite addition to the crepes.
Here’s what I will say: This place is worth trying, especially if you’re local - you might love it. But, I think the expectation should be: An artful, lovingly crafted, creative interpretation of your favorite food. That kind of experience is not for everyone. But, it is EXACTLY what some people desperately crave.

I was charmed the instant I walked in. This is a café-bistro with eclectic, vintage decoration. The staff was amazing: friendly and warm, akin to the vibe of the entire place.
The food, however, was quite simply surreal. My friend and I shared the caviar eclair and the steak tartare as entries. I had never tasted caviar or beef tartare before, but I was absolutely conquered. We also had the sole, the escargot vol-au-vent and the lamb shank. Simply put, these later two dishes were divine! Had I had more room, I would gladly have ordered a second round of both.
This is by far my favorite place in DC, and I absolutely recommend it.
