Riggs DC is incredible. The front desk staff were super sweet, and the café offers great food at an unbeatable price. We’ll definitely be back to stay again!

My Stay at the Riggs Hotel in DC
While the hotel itself is stylish, my stay at the Riggs Hotel in DC was marred by several frustrating experiences. Nearly everything in the room came with an unreasonably high price tag, which left me unsure if I could even use basic amenities like the hand soap without being charged.
Upon checkout, we were surprised to find an additional charge of $48 per night. We were told this covered WiFi, a branded tote bag, and cleaning fees. However, none of this was clearly communicated at the time of booking. When we questioned the charges, the staff claimed we should have received an email confirmation—but we never did. In fact, we had to email the hotel ourselves just to receive our confirmation number after check-in.

Arrived to find 3 employees out front, 1 helping a couple get into their own ride 2 just chatting. No one acknowledged us, or even opened the door. Accepted the welcome champagne but then had to figure out how to prevent spillage while also juggling luggage as numerous employees continued to pass us by - just figured it was not the norm to not be assisted with luggage at a 5 star hotel in DC. This was quickly disproven as we were in and out of the hotel during our stay seeing many others checking in and being assisted. In our room, found some sort of stain on a pillow case and wanting to ensure we received clean sheets asked at minimum that the pillow case be replaced during housekeeping. When we returned, we found the bed had been remade with the same pillow case. The sheets were fully changed upon the second request. Overall the stay was very underwhelming. We've booked this trip in the past but had to cancel for different reasons, although I was set that I would only travel here if staying at Riggs hotel. I'm thankful we came during the off season so I can at least be satisfied knowing I didn't pay full price for the experience had. Only great thing about this place was location.

My husband & I were there on the morning of August 26th, just to have a cocktail after a very stressful morning appointment. Although the bartender had clearly opened the bar for business, he informed us that the bar wasn't technically open (although website says 10 am), and he was more concerned about getting the bar completely set up before we became priority, and we were the only 2 people sitting at the bar, instead of greeting us in a friendly manner, making 1 drink for us, and continuing to set up the bar. He basically said he couldn't serve us a Bloody Mary because he hadn't gotten any ice yet. A VERY nice lady (Farida I believe) also working in the bar offered to go get a glass of ice for him to make the Bloody Mary. I might add, it was the absolute WORST tasting BM I've ever had, mix was horrendous. I then asked if he minded making me a mimosa, and not with a good attitude, made and served me a mimosa. He went back to his side work and didn't even acknowledge our presence. The lady continued to treat us with the best attitude and was extremely helpful. I sure hope he shared and even gave her our tip.

First time staying here.
Loved the location, close to walking to about anywhere.
Rooms where clean, a bit small. Smaller than I expected them to be but comfortable otherwise. Staff was great and every friendly.
We are breakfast a few times during our stay.
Was anxious to do so due to having to eat from the GF menu and breakfast items can be not much of an option at most places.
After speaking to the manager at the restaurant, cafe Riggs, I was put at ease as he went through the whole menu and told me what would be and what would not be and explained why.
I have to say it was the best eggs I've had in a long time and I was not expecting that I could actually eat gluten-free toast without worrying about cross contamination.
My husband had the breakfast sandwich and loved everything.
Thank you for a great stay.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Riggs last weekend. Overall 5 stars nearly across the board. I gave 4 stars for the room itself. However, the service was outstanding. The friendliest, most accommodating valet staff I've ever encountered. Front desk was top notch, Riggs cafe staff, terrific. Breakfast was elegant and very delicious. The bar area and Riggs cafe is beautiful. We look forward to visiting DC again to stay at the Riggs as much as anything. Well done Riggs.

Room is too small, with stuffy smell. Courtyard view is no view at all. Won’t recommend.

Stayed here for three nights this summer. Can't say enough good things about it. The location is great - there are a bunch of good restaurants within a couple blocks. The hotel is nice. The people at the front desk were very friendly. Cafe Riggs on the first floor is beautiful and an excellent place to have a glass of wine at the end of the night. Our room was great and great for sleeping - it was quiet and dark at night.

We loved our stay here! We stayed 5 nights and this location was perfect for visiting the Smithsonian’s. We walked to nearly every museum and restaurant. I absolutely loved breakfast at Cafe Riggs every morning! Delicious and consistent. Definitely worth getting breakfast included with your room. I will recommend this hotel to friends and would stay here again! Felt like a five star hotel in terms of the cleanliness, service, and updated style. Loved the little touches, like the umbrella in the room and robes. The front door staff were especially nice and welcoming, always willing to grab us bottled water and extra umbrellas.

The hotel is comfortable and the staff are friendly. It’s close to all of the touristy stuff so walking was easy from the hotel.

Perfect location for site seeing. Close to numerous places to eat. Close to Metro.

Truly the BEST hotel experience I’ve ever had! Booked through the Capital One Premier Collection. The staff were so friendly and every detail was thought of. The historic charm of Riggs is stunning and meals at Café Riggs were to die for — we had both dinner and brunch. Location could not be better — I recommend renting their free bikes for a ride around the National Mall. The atmosphere is classy and elegant, yet still calm and not too over-the-top. I can’t WAIT to be back!!

Riggs, count your days till I return… and bring friends and family!

Vincent was the first smiling face to greet me, warmly wishing my room was ready. I think he saw my coast-to-coast travel exhaustion and sent all the good vibes. Eleanna worked her magic to find me a room before check-in and upgraded me, thanks to my platinum privileges. This one accommodation elevated the tone for my entire time in DC.

Walking into Riggs is like stepping into a beautiful time capsule, those grand columns and the elegant ambiance instantly sets an upscale mood. My room was inviting and luxurious, shower was a treat, and the king bed was so comfy.

At the bar, the service was phenomenal, constant water refills, a perfectly crafted mocha latte, and fresh, juicy mussels drenched in the most delectable sauce. Hands down the best brussel sprouts I’ve ever had. On another occasion I enjoyed the goat cheese tart and the crab cake. The tart was wonderfully creamy and flaky, with a perfect tangy bite, while the crab cake was crispy on the outside and full of fresh, flavorful crab. A simple yet memorable part of my dining experience!

Breakfast was a graceful, attentive affair. The chef delivered blueberry pancakes with a side of fresh fruit and a blended drink that made such an impression I had to have the same breakfast twice. I highly recommend the Riggs Café just to experience this delightful menu again. Plus, the restaurant is a visual fantasy from every angle.

Eraste, my server, was my last lasting impression, but honestly, every staff member was helpful, positive, and attentive. The only finger I lifted all weekend was to press the elevator button. My stay felt like one big invitation to relax, eat well, and be content. I can’t wait to come back.
