This was our second time at the Riggs. The hotel is beautiful, and the location is great. The only reason that we will not return to the hotel is the service. I felt deceived when we were overcharged for a half bottle of wine. The wine was placed next to the complimentary water and coffee, and no sign or note suggested that it was not a part of the complimentary beverage. We needed to request bring more water to our room, although we had 3 nights (and booked 2 rooms), and the housekeeping did visit our room. The hotel staff didn't let me feel that I was welcome.

If we come back to DC, definitely won’t stay at Riggs again. The doorman is not always there, and just happens to not be there when needed. When we arrived, we had to open the heavy doors ourselves while carrying our bags, pulling luggages, and trying to keep an eye on our kids.We booked the Atelier suite, for a total of 4 guests. The sofa bed could barely fit more than 1 person. It was the saddest sofa bed. It’s small, somewhere between twin and full size. It would not fit 2 adults, not even 2 older kids. I have 2 young kids, which is why they fit, even though it was cramped.I don’t think the “mattress” on the sofa bed can even be considered a mattress. It’s 2 inches thick, and feels like metal coils stuffed into a duvet. All you feel is the metal. The shower is tiny… not even 2 feet wide, and someone thought it would be a good idea to install a shower shelf that sticks out, which takes up even more space. I’m small at 5’2, and I had to keep myself from hitting the shower door. My husband repeatedly hit the glass while showering. A lot of the water drips out of the shower, the door doesn’t close all the way. It caused a large pool of water to collect right outside the shower doors. The water in the shower is either cold or extremely hot… never a comfortable temperature. The cold water at the sink was never cold, always warm, so we brushed our teeth with warm water. My biggest issue is that I booked the suite for 4 people… however they only provided linens for 2 people. I had to ask for extra everything.. pillows, towels, bedsheet. When I asked for a blanket for my kids the first night, they said they ran out of blankets. HOW CAN YOU RUN OUT OF BLANKETS AT A HOTEL?? That is unacceptable. They gave us one tiny quilt that definitely was not made for more than one person.I asked the front desk for blankets again the next morning, and came back to nothing that night again. I had to call the front desk again and was finally given extra blankets that should had been there on the first night. Were there any positives? I guess..The room was large, and we got some privacy from the kids because the bathroom separates the living room and bedroom. The housekeeper that made our bedroom on Sunday was very thoughtful in giving us boxed water, not the glass bottles because of the kids.Overall, it was not a good experience here. The location is nice, close to many restaurants and the museums. But I wouldn’t stay here again. Also, be prepared to pay hidden fees.

Great location and nice looking hotel. Rooms are a bit old but generally nice. The service is bad though. The hotel forgot the extra bed we ordered for our kids. We arrived at midnight and not having a bed ready was bad.Breakfast and restaurant service is the worst: they never had a table for us ready, even though we stayed at the hotel. We were then placed somewhere else without any service. I approached the bar multiple times but was told to wait by my table were nobody ever came. All this for a place that charges +$30 for a single breakfast dish.Very arrogant service as well.

A fine place for fine people who likes fine food and really good cocktails.Check out Silver Lyan down stares.Nearby activities: Close to many places on dc, including sidewalks, roads, road crossing and even traffic lights.Safety: The place itself is pretty safe, also the immediate neighborhood, but you def don't want to wear your fanciest cloths and wander too far from it by foot.Rather ruse the old in and out Uber or car ridesWalkability: High walkability, sidewalk are present, wish city safety was up to speed with the rest that this place has to offerFood & drinks: Caffe Riggs is a great spot for food and drinks, silver Lyan is a fabulous cocktail bar/speakeasy.

We had an incredible time. The bed was extremely comfy and the room had a nice ambiance. The staff members were helpful and professional and they truly made the stay memorable. I would especially like to thank Mr. D.C. for his kindness and charisma. I would also like to mention that Cafe Riggs had some of the most delicious food which just enhanced the stay. The hotel is also super convenient to restaurants, shopping, museums, and monuments. Plus there were multiple options for transportation including convenient metro stations, bikes, uber, etc...We will definitely choose to stay at Riggs Washington D.C. when we visit the area again.

Beware the very punitive “cancellation penalty” requiring 72 hours notice. My plans changed and I notified the hotel and Expedia that I would be staying 1 night and not 2. When I checked out, I got a bill for 1 night and thought everything was fine. When I got my credit card statement weeks later, the hotel had tacked on $489 for a 2nd night I was not there and they knew I would not be there, and absolutely refused to rescind it because they had less than 72 hours notice of the change. There are lots of other hotels in the area, such as the Morrison-Clark, which is much more reasonably priced and has much nicer rooms. The novelty of the building being a former bank is not worth the price.Rooms: Small

I think it was very deplorable of the service workers to not offer bathroom services to people who were not sober. I did not see the staff acting in proper ways and I would never pay for a room here!

Overall my stay has been phenomenal thus far. When I first arrived, I was greeted like a VIP which gave the stay a very welcoming and homey feel. I'm in town for my birthday weekend and the hotel sent some very nice compliments - thanks! Location is a short walk to Chinatown and right near Metro Center so it's relatively easy to get around. The rooms aren't the most modern, but they are still nice and the service here certainly compensates for it. Very pleased so far!Walkability: Within 7 mins walking from Metro Center and Chinatown

Great location but I would not stay here again. Bathroom was dysfunctional, door was so large you had to uncomfortably squish next to toilet and shower door to open and close. Restaurant and bar were so busy that there was no availability, even for hotel guests.

Just spent the last four days at The Riggs Hotel in DC with my daughter and 2 granddaughters aged 10 and 12. The location was perfect and the hotel staff couldn’t have been more attentive. We had dinner at the Cafe Riggs the first night and everything was delicious. They had kids menus which were perfect. We also had breakfast there 2 mornings and everyone was very happy.I would definitely recommend this hotel without any hesitation.Rooms: The only thing is the room was a little dark but otherwise comfortable.
