I just really like the vibe this place has.In a way it feels a little out of place for the area - blocks from the White House and around some high-profile restaurants, but very much the feel of a suburban neighborhood go-to tavern. With an hour or so to kill before heading to the airport to fly home I wanted something good but easy and not too fancy - and this was perfect.On the food alone I'd probably say 4/5 - good, with a little room for improvement. As a fake German (PA Dutch) I declare this delicious. They’re so friendly and I love that it’s locally owned and that they’ve been open despite places still being closed for lunch due to Covid. They have a small number of German/Austrian snacks and groceries as well as beers and desserts. I haven’t purchased those yet, but have gotten lunch a handful of times since moving back to DC and it’s always fresh, delicious, and satisfies all my schnitzel/applesauce/potato cravings....
My husband loves German food and I was excited for the Jaeger Schnitzel. Everything was ok but not great with the exception of the Dunkel. That he loved. Unfortunately they were out of two other kinds of beer he had looked forward to trying. He said the sauerkraut was "odd". I hate writing negative reviews but when I'm researching restaurants I rely on reviews. The server was very nice and service was good. Lastly, the place says it's open until 10 but when...
