One of my favorite spots. I love the snapper everytime!
This is one of my favorite places to dine in DC. The food and cocktails are so flavorful and well executed. The Trini beef pie, jerk wings, and fried snapper are my must haves. Truly delicious.

Incredible food
I have tried this restaurant three times for both dine-in and carry out. I’ve been disappointed three times. But I will not be for a fourth for I shall not dine with them again. The oxtails were tough and favored only with peppers and grossly under seasoned. They also had been reheated and burned in the process. They arrived literally black and charred — not in a good and tasty way, but in an inedible way. The ribs were dry and had an odd color with the appearance of having been cooked several days prior. Because of these two dishes, I didn’t even attempt to taste the additional food we ordered. The price of the food demonstrates a desire to be more than the flavor and preparation support.. It’s too bad because the establishment has had some high level exposure on Nationally televised food shows. This is a lesson for other up and coming chefs and restaurants: Marketing will only get you so far. It does not compensate for good quality and great tasting food — that’s where the solid reputation and longevity live.

It is a very small space, but cozy and stylish. Great playlist going.
We came for a family celebratory dinner, early evening. Hunter took fantastic care of us and knew the menu inside and out.
We had the smoked jerk wings, doubles, beef pie, Trini-Chinese chicken, shrimp wontons, oxtails, and curried chicken/goat family meal. Wings were smoky and juicy 5/5; doubles were sweet and well spiced 4/5; Trini-Chinese chicken was a hit across the table(we could have ordered two) 5/5; the curried chicken was a showstopper 5/5; the curried goat was delicious too 4/5, but didn’t beat the chicken. The oxtails were beautiful, but I prefer my oxtails braised or smoked until falling off the bone. These were grilled and tasty, but less remarkable than our other dishes by far 2.5/5. Potato and channa curries were yummy, filling sides with lots of gravy to spread the flavor!
We were left wanting a fresh green option, but overall had a highly enjoyable meal. We’ll definitely return for lunch and happy hour.

Try the trini beef pie and the sorrel . The portion size for the oxtail rice bowl was a little ridiculous (not in a good way). That may have been the lunch size. The amount of oxtail I received was expected because we all know the price of oxtail ….. but the sides (rice/ vegetables) were a small size as well which I didn’t like.

Restaurantji Recommends
Fairly good food, incredibly poor service, and decent ambience combine to make this a middling and dissatisfying experience.
We waited about 20 mins before we even interacted with a server, a total of 40 mins before we got our drinks, and an hour+ before we got our first bites. We were there for 2+ hours, for what should have been a much shorter meal, including waiting 20 mins to pay our check. And the small restaurant was not close to full, they were just terribly disorganized in terms of service.
It's sad because the jerk wings and the beef pie were some of the best versions of those dishes I have ever had. But the oxtail main plate was good but not great, and the chicken curry omnivore dish was pretty bland and unremarkable. So the food started great and went downhill.
Cocktails were clever in design but shoddy in preparation, overly sweet and amateurishly mixed.
This place can be great, but it's far from it at the moment. Can't recommend it. Lydia's on H was far better, even if it suffered from similar service and pacing issues.

This place is a hidden gem that is off the beaten path of DC tourist traps. I had a wonderful experience here with great food and the best rum I have ever had in my life! Don't worry about what to order when you visit; just ask the very attentive wait staff to recommend food and definitely get the rum flight to go with it.

Good food, rum punch was punching. I guess food was made to order because the wait was a bit long. Otherwise I would also return

If you’re looking for great Caribbean food in a classy and cozy environment, Cane is the spot. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned and the staff is friendly and attentive. I came alone, but this is a perfect date night spot, or somewhere you came come and catch up with an old friend. 5 stars!
