We made a reservation for 12:30 on a Sunday and the table was ready with menu opens as soon as we arrived.

We ate and had paid our checks by 1:40, just illustrating the quick and efficient service Freddie provided.

We had French toast, catfish, oxtail, wings, salad and other items. Everything was well seasoned and delicious.

Definitely take a moment to stop and enjoy this neighborhood gem. Street parking on E Capitol was pretty plentiful, especially when the school is not in session.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times over the years and always had a decent experience, but it had been about a year since my last visit. I stopped in recently, and while the server was friendly and attentive, the food was disappointing.

I ordered the Oxtail Egg Rolls, which were mostly filled with rice rather than oxtail. At $23, I expected something much more substantial. When I mentioned my disappointment to the server, he just nodded and awkwardly smiled, saying “yeah,” which made the situation even more frustrating.

Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to past experiences, and I don’t think I’ll be returning.

Tonight was date night. My husband picked the restaurant and I throughly enjoyed myself. We ordered the Mama African Frozen Cocktail, Bang Bang Shrimp, Oxtail Spring Rolls, and the Chicken Francese. I’m not hyping it this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The spinach was flavorful. I will say the music was a bit loud but we went on a Saturday night at 11PM, so slightly expected. All in all we will return and we are excited to try brunch next.

Absolutely LOVE this place! Have driven by for years and finally stopped in for a Friday night date night during happy hour. My husband and I love Washington, D.C. happy hour options and theirs were pretty good either way gluten free and vegetarian options.

Started our dining experience with a vodka cran for myself and the house red for my partner. Then we ended up splitting the amazing plantains nachos, strawberry feta and blueberry salad and the most delicious mashed potatoes I think I’ve ever had. Our waitress was super helpful and nice while helping me navigate my gluten free options. We got to meet the chef too and he was so friendly. Can’t wait to come back, especially for their brunch deals and specials.

The food here is excellent, especially when Chef Fredy is involved. His addition of the stuffed calamari is truly a chef's kiss!

Wonderful brunch experience. I love the African food options, and the better than average food preparation and presentation!

We had a wonderful experience at DC Capitol Square Bar & Grill.
The service was outstanding and Chef Fredy personally made sure everything was perfect, which truly elevated our visit. The food was exceptional, started with the creamiest, most flavorful cream crab that was chef’s kiss!

The lamb chops were tender and flavorful, the sides were fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. Highly recommend this spot for both the amazing food and the warm, attentive service.

Great atmosphere, very instagramable. We tried the African Mama cocktail (frozen), for apps we had the Oxtail spring rolls and the cream of crab—both super tasty. For my entrée I ordered the lamb chops, absolutely delicious . Chef Fredy made the overall experience delightful.

Went here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. We had an amazing time and the food was delectable. The oxtail is the best I’ve had in a long time. I will be coming back and inviting more people

Chef Freddy Garciaguirre is a star. His Cajun-style pasta is a must-try, especially crowned with butter-poached jumbo lump crab meat. 🤌

Every bite is rich, balanced, and unforgettable—no filler, just flavor.

The Food was scrumptious 😋 it's freshness and seasoned to perfection. The drinks 🍸 were exquisite. We did Hookah and they have a huge variety of different flavors 😁 The staff was very nice and made sure we were satisfied. 😊
