after seeing the happy hour, i was really excited to try this place out. i sat down at the bar, and i was the only person there (maybe 2 people at booths). the bartender finished cleaning his stuff, and 2-3 minutes later acknowledged me and told me to order by qr code (even though he was right there). i ended up at a table with a friend, and because we wanted to use inkind to pay, it was such a hassle. the staff was so unwelcome and not at all understanding. my friend wanted less sugar in her drink. they claimed they didn’t understand that simple question. eventually we got our drinks (that tasted like they had no alcohol), and my friend never even got a glass a water. it was overall a very disappointing experience, unfortunately.

They need better lids on their cups. Just had a whole cup spill in my car. I recommend you bring your own containers.

The place is very nice, the atmosphere is good, and the food is super good. Unfortunately, the lady who took my order was super hateful. It seemed like she was bothered serving me, as if I was asking for something or not, or I wasn't going to pay for my food. I wanted to try a couple more things, but her attitude made me completely lose any desire to try anything else. I thought I would feel more comfortable because she was Latina, just like me, but it was the opposite.

I attended a poetry reading by Cuban intellectual Katherine Bisquet at Colada Shop, and the experience was truly unforgettable. This Cuban spot brings us the flavors and warmth that are so hard to find in the Washington DC area — especially for those of us who grew up with croquetas, empanadas, churros, and Cuban sandwiches made just right 💛

This evening, Irving, Alondra, and Marta went above and beyond. They served delicious drinks, perfectly prepared bites, and even packed up the leftover churros and sandwiches so everyone could take something home. It’s this kind of care and hospitality that makes Colada Shop so special.

I’ve been here other times as well, and it has always been more than a café. It is a gathering place for the Latina exile community, a little corner of home in the middle of DC. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Cuban flavors and genuine human warmth.

PS/ Dear management, if you happen to read this: these amazing people deserve a raise, a promotion, or at least an extra day off 🥰. They’ve truly earned it!

The service is very good — the staff taking orders are friendly, attentive, and empathetic. The atmosphere is nice, and the food looks very appealing. However, in my experience, the flavor didn’t quite live up to the expectations.

As a Cuban, I went hoping to enjoy a good Cuban sandwich, but honestly, I found it overpriced for what I got: $16 for a sandwich that, in my opinion, didn’t justify the price. I’m attaching a photo so you can draw your own conclusions.

Another big downside is that sitting outside is practically impossible because of a mosquito infestation — as we used to say in Cuba, “they’ll lift you off the ground.”

It wasn’t a bad experience, but it’s not a place I would personally return to.

The whole menu had nothing for a 6 year old and I asked for an order of scramble eggs for my son as they had eggs in their dishes and they said no. We we left. Not accommodating at all!

Somehow chill and vibrant at the same time. I visited DC from California and we don’t have these here. I went back every single day of my trip for an iced cafe con leche. It was perfect. I wish there was one in San Luis Obispo, CA.

I had such a great experience at Colado Shop on DuPont circle! The place has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the food was so good and fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I especially want to shout out Ana who gave me some of the best customer service I’ve had in a long time. She was incredibly friendly, helpful with recommendations, and made the whole visit feel personal and warm. It’s rare to come across someone who makes you feel so genuinely welcomed. Between the amazing food and Ana’s outstanding service, I’ll definitely be coming back!

The Cuban sandwich is the best we've ever had! So savory, down to the last bite. The empanadas were small, but delightful. And our virgin daiquiri and pina colada were the perfect dessert!
