Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi offers a memorable dining experience in an opulent ambience with great service. It is worth waiting for a seat at the bar or making an early reservation. The menu features various dishes, all layered with rich flavors, influenced by Afro-Caribbean culture and drawn from the chef's Nigerian, Jamaican, Trinidadian and Creole background. Standout dishes include coco bread, BBQ greens, shrimp, jollof rice, hoe cakes, escovitch, pri pri salad, chicken and rice, and rum cake. The R&B music and dark setting create a sexy and romantic atmosphere. Despite some operational kinks being ironed out, the food and service have received high praise. The charbroiled oyster felt a bit over powered by the strong cheesy flavor. The corn bread with spiced shiro butter was pretty delicious. The carrot tigua with peanut stew had a mix of spicy and sweet flavor. The "Hoe Crab" with plantain hoe cakes and aji verde sauce was beautifully plated and had flawless texture. The Mom Dukes Shrimp served in Frenchman butter was forgettable. The grilled wagyu short rib was more than solid. The rum cake and vanilla whip and charred fruit was addictively delicious. The sleek dining room gives an Afrofuturism vibe, inspired by the astrological worldview of the Dōgon tribe. There is a full bar with cocktails with African ingredients and influences. The service was excellent. The ambiance was nice. Every dish was excellent. The staff was kind.
