Worse experience I’ve had at an establishment. My boyfriend and I just left this place 45 min ago. We got seated and ordered all our food at once ( apps and entree) from a prefixed menu. We placed the order at 8:20pm. Apps came out at 8:30……… let’s just say I was in my car driving away at 9:30 and only ever had the apps.

The food was excellent. The service was abysmal. Dirty dishes removed painfully slowly one by one. No offer to refill empty coffee cups. Kitchen painfully slow. Missing pastry because someone couldn’t count the correct number of guests at the table. Wrong checks handed out. It’s no wonder they include gratuity on the bill.

The food was wonderful and the service was great but imposing a mandatory tip on any meal is wrong on these points. First, whether to tip and how much is MY domain and preview NOT YOURS. I don’t tell you what to pay your servers (what do you pay them? The legal minimum?). How dare you have the hutzpah to tell me what to tip. That’s MY money and MY prerogative Not Yours. Keep your hands out of my wallet. Digging into your own pocket if you feel like your custom, your servers are not getting paid enough. Second, I am not a deadbeat or reprobate but your mandatory policy screams that is how you see each of us. Don’t bother telling me you don’t intend to send that message, the policy’s existence does that by existing. Third, you screwed the servers because I would have tipped more but was insulted by the policy and made it a point to apologize for only tipping your rate. If you really want to pass your server compensation on to the customers and are too cheap to take care of that yourself, then balk it onto the price and declare a no tipping policy. STOP INSULTING AND INSINUATING YOUR CLIENTELE ARE DEADBEATS

The place is nice to sit and have a drink.
A billiard table is there for free as well.
Cocktails were amazing, food was sadly burned and not good at all.

Great experience!! My friend and I had a lovely evening— especially with Keyko as an amazing server. She took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed :-)

The pluses: excellent, friendly, and prompt service; fun atmosphere; and very good food presentation. The so-sos: food, though innovative, was over-salted on both our main courses; drinks were relatively expensive; final bill, even for restaurant week prices ($40 each, for 3 courses), was close to $200 for 2 people, including tax and tip -- frankly more than the experience was worth. (Drinks consisted of 1 [pretty good, nothing amazing] cocktail each, plus 1 ice tea and 1 glass of wine.)

I made a reservation for 2 for 11am during DC Restaurant Week and nobody on the wait staff came to talk to us after waiting for 30 minutes. Please do not allow people to make reservations at 11 if you are not actually open then

Don't waste your time. This place is horrible. The oyster were spoiled, the drinks were bad. Overall bad experience.

This was very unexpected , all the food was delicious and I'm very particular about my eggs( can't eat regular eggs, so I was very happy with the pastured eggs and chicken sauages) , I guess I haven't traveled in a while , I dont agree in restaurants making you pay a 18 to 20 percent gratuity, that should be left up to the customers. We enjoyed the spot, everyone was very attentive and definitely the kids enjoyed the French toast and bacon. Later in the evening we purchased 2 different desserts to try, the experience for them trying something new was nice.

I went here with my 93 year old father for a drink and meal. Our waiter was wonderful and took the time to help us understand the options and explained the automatic gratuity system as we were paying our bill. I’d definitely visit Figleaf again!

My son took me to Figleaf for Mother's Day brunch yesterday. We had a reservation and were a bit early, so our table wasn't ready, which was understandable albeit the fact that they weren't that busy. Once we were seated, however, nobody came to even serve us water for a long time. When the waitress finally came, I let her know that I wasn't impressed by the service so far. Things turned around from there on. Two servers came by to check on us intermittently the whole time we were there. When we expressed disappointment that there were no dessert options on the Mother's Day special menu, Kholine, the hostess, made an exception for us and got us two marvelous slices of chocolate raspberry layered cake. And she didn't even charge us for the dessert. The food was good and the decor was quite unique! I recommend this place.

Dietary restrictions: My son is lactose-intolerant and he ordered the Mother's Day special NOLA shrimp and grits. Unfortunately, it had cheese, so the staff brought him a different paprika shrimp dish.

Took my mom here for mother's day. Ordered a bunch of food. They don't have many options at all for people who specifically feel overwhelmed with intricate menus. The food was phenomenal. The ginsen burger was delicious and their fries are too die for! I also got the bottomless mimosas which for the price was totally worth it! The ambience is beautiful and classy. My mom hates crowded places so this was perfect as it was only about two other families who sat down while the rest were at the bar! It is pretty chilly in certain spots, but overall this was a great hidden gem to find! The servers are so nice and really want to make sure everything is going okay!
