One of my best coffee places in DC. Unfortunately, open during the weekdays only, but not weekends. It’s a bit far from where I live, so there’s no opportunity to visit it very often.
I tried Cortado only, and it tastes perfectly. There’s also a good selection of other caffeinated drinks. There are no indoor seating, only standing tables, but you are welcome to use a common building area with the tables as well as simple outdoor tables.
Some basic pastries are available for a quick bite as well. Love it!

Great coffee brewed by folks who appreciate good coffee and know what they're doing. One of few places that offer pour over! The guys are fun and cheery and the location inside the building foyer offers a large space where to sit and doesn't have that noisy crowdedness you get in small café.

Great straight espresso. The place looks sterile from the street but the seating area is around the corner in an office building lobby that has table seating with power and some softer seating options. Not a cozy vibe but a good place to rest, work, or converse.

The worst cup of coffee in dc
So sad to have found this place on my last day in DC. If you're a coffee connoisseur and you want good black coffee, French press pour overs or v60s this is your place.

The salads are crisp, fresh, and flavorful.
A variety of quality pourovers and good espresso. Hours are somewhat limited but its still worth going out of your way to visit.
The drink options are more traditional -- nuanced pourovers and strong espresso, but not so focused on milk and sugary Ingredients. They use beans primarily from Ceremony coffee roasters.
I particularly like the available seating and bathrooms in building's lobby. Very open and nice furniture, and a good place to get some work done or cool off on a hot day.

The pizza crust was light and crispy while the toppings tasted incredibly fresh.

I’ve maybe posted a single review over the past ten years but felt compelled to post one after my experience at Filter. The quality of the coffee beans, the quality of the brewing process, the quality of the staff/customer service at Filter… it’s all superb. I am not exaggerating when I write that it was maybe the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had, certainly in the United States (it was a Gesha bean pour-over expertly brewed by one of the very competent baristas—no corners cut—a great deal of attention paid to the details, like preheating the carafe with hot water). Beyond the coffee itself, the staff were friendly, charismatic, and helpful with recommendations; the type of people working at a place where you can easily see yourself being a regular. I’m moving back to DC next year, and can confidently say that this is a place I will visiting at least once a week—more if I can.
Don’t get me wrong, coffee chains like Starbucks are great for a quick and convenient cup of hot or iced caffeine. But if and when you’d like to pay attention to the coffee you’re drinking, the people who are making it, and the overall aesthetic of coffee as something more than just a drink, I highly recommend stopping by Filter.

Stopped in for a latte and just wanted some vanilla... turns out they don't even have syrups. Ended up with an oat milk latte with some kind of brown sugar-infused something (still not sure what I ordered) and it was almost $11. For one latte. There are plenty of coffee spots around here doing great lattes for $8 or less so save your money and hit one of those

This is, without question, the best coffee in DC. Everyone else is playing for 2nd Place. It’s a gorgeous place, and the cold brew is magnificent. Quit dorking around with other places. You’ve found it.

The worst coffee place in DC. No matcha, no cold sizes under 16 oz, bad coffee.
Seriously inflexible and the only iced coffee they can serve in a plastic cup is an iced latte with triple shot. God forbid you want a smaller iced coffee with less shots/milk - because then it’d only be served in a paper cup. ?!?
Edit: To clarify, I had asked for a smaller coffee in their existing, single size plastic cup. I had in no way insinuated I was upset at the lack of sizes of plastic cups. Anyway, it does not seem the management is interested in customer service, based on their sarcastic reply.
