Garbage don't dare go. Food is GARR BAGE'. You've been WARNED...BG while I'm typing this review.Salmon cakes had NO salmon in it. The server said they use canned salmon and that's why the lack flavor. Ummmm...NOPE...I grew up eating salmon cakes from the can...but/and they were seasoned with onions..peppers etc.Home fries were frozen not fresh and still no onions or peppers or flavor. No strawberry or grape jelly...butter was too hard to slice for the toast. They tell you that you can pay and order via the qr app. Kool, but then she says if you want to tip your server that they prefer cash. Huhhhh?? Tip for what exactly...We just sat down...and waited about 6 min for glasses of water.Go if you want..

Asked for hot coffee after being served cold coffee and was told to try again tomorrow. Whites not welcome in this black owned business.

I've been wanting to try this place for forever but I was never sure if/when they were open. I was determined to try them so I absolutely had to figure it out. It's lent and as a New Orleans native, I was craving some good fried catfish. The menu stated they had "Cajun" fried catfish so I had to check it out myself. This is true fried catfish that could satisfy any Creole or Cajun's tastebuds. As many others have stated, this place is ran by a one woman show in the front. I didn't even catch her name because she was so busy but she was always kind. When you come in, you take a seat and there is a barcode for you to scan and order. This place used to be cash only now it's card only so be prepared (this is where the star is lost). I ordered the catfish dinner with macaroni and candied yams as my side. Like others have stated, the candied yams do give "canned." Probably Gloria's but lucky for me, I like canned candied yams. The price isn't astronomical so I'm not going to throw a fit about it. The macaroni and cheese was really good. I made sure to take a picture of the drink. I had fruit punch with a splash of lemonade. Tastes like some good ol red Kool aid from summers as a kid. And they have the "good ice" here! I love a no frills diner so I will be back especially since we are currently in the season of lent. This place also has a Jamaican menu starting at a certain time. I plan on checking that part of the menu out as well.

I was greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Its very small similar to a truck stop diner. The food was delicious and comforting. If you visit plan on taking a nap directly after the portions are huge and plentiful. I had the fried pork chops and potatoes I really enjoyed it and had the remainder for lunch. I will be back for sure!

Save yourself a visit. It's not worth the rude and disrespect of the one single employee who claims to have been working their 30 years. Arrived at 1:25pm (after driving an hour to get there) and was yelled at upon walking in "the kitchen is closed and the cook says she isn't cooking anymore!" First, the hours list the closing time as 2pm. Secondly, in what business is it ever appropriate to yell at a patron walking in the door? I have never been so disrespected in my life. Claiming to be the oldest soul food restaurant "in the world", with such a rich history for African Americans, I cannot believe they treat patrons in such a manner. After getting the manager involved, the manager said they would take my order. But I will never ever give this business my money or give them the pleasure of cooking for me! What I don't do is beg a business to take my money! I will never go back and I'll be sure to tell anyone who will listen not to go either! All I wanted to do was get my grandmother the meal she requested for her birthday. Even after saying this, I was rudely told that's not their problem!

The service was horrific - it took an entire 40 minutes for our food to be completed and there was only 4 other tables in the entire restaurant. Our order was just eggs, grits; nothing complicated. The food came out room temp, and there was literally nothing special about it.

Food was very good, but, because the waitress wasn't there this morning, the service was very slow. That said, the food was good.

You’re coming here for the food and the history, not the service. When we first walked in, there was a couple in front of us so we waited for a few. When a few people got up at the bar, we asked the couple if they were waiting on a table and they said yes, so we started walking towards the bar to take those stools. This was our first mistake because the owner/manager/whomever quickly barked out to me to “not bum rush” her and to wait my turn. When we were finally seated at a table, she was our waitress, along with another girl helping, and it was just rush led and not personal at all. She told the table behind us when they asked for a refill of coffee that she wasn’t making anymore because it was too close to closing time. This was at 12:30 and they closed at 2pm.The food was pretty good with the pancakes with cinnamon being the biggest hit. The sweet tea was very surprisingly good.Come because this place does have some historical significance but don’t expect any sort of “southern hospitality”.

I just came in there to try to order some carryout and the lady said not at this time toodle poodle after waiting 2-3min. There should have been a sign. All I wanted was a breakfast sandwich, first time there and my last time. Not the service I wanted to receive.

I really enjoyed the staff. They were nice and sweet. My table wasn't clean. My grits tasted good but I asked for cheese grits and the put a Kraft single in the bottom. My Salmon cake had the middle bone pieces. I asked for jelly or honey for my biscuit which they did not have. The French toast was sad. It tasted like cinnamon toast. The bacon tasted like it had been sitting. The food was cold. They need more staff as they only had one cook. I was disappointed.

I really wanted to BRAG about this restaurant when I returned home to Jacksonville, FL. However, I cannot do that. This place was a total disappointment from the customer service to the ice cold food. There is no reason that a grill should turn out cold eggs, bacon, potatoes, hot cakes, etc…the only thing smoking were the grits (temperature wise). These “SECRET RECIPE HOTCAKES” taste like boxed add water only pancake mix. If you want to classify this as a Soul Food establishment, I recommend teaching your cooks how to make scratch pancakes with a crispy edge. I would also recommend the cooks, actually cook to order versus stockpiling food for serving as ordered. The lemonade was okay but even though it isn’t freshly squeezed it could be jazzed up with fresh lemon slices. My home fries were not only overcooked (and I appreciate a little browning on my potatoes), the taste was not palatable. The staff did not greet us. They were slow to approach, and to take our orders. When we entered 90% of the guests were not eating but guess who was…the bus boy…right on the other side of the counter. This is so unprofessional! The server, I believe the manager of the restaurant, was handling cups around their rims and serving them. I never saw anyone wash there hands between eating their food, handling money, taking orders, etc… This place should probably lock their doors if they are not going to step up their GAME! My family is urging me to not push Post on this but I have to, this is Restaurant 101 stuff with Basic Breakfast as the meal. I will close with this, understanding the history of this place makes my heart leap with joy, seeing the tidiness it was impressive, but you have a long way to go on food Quality.
