Great menu. Spatchcock chicken a little dry but the purple kale salad was excellent. Excellent and friendly service.
Our server, Abby, was thoughtful and kind. It was an unusual day in Washington DC, the morning after an all night snowfall, so the restaurant was not terribly busy for brunch, and everyone seemed amazed by the snow and happy to be inside where it was warm. It made for a fun atmosphere for both servers and patrons.
My work has an annual event in DC every January and I make it a point to come to Founding Farmers in Foggy Bottom every time. I found this place years ago during a trip to DC to see some museums and monuments and loved it so much it's a must-do anytime I'm in town. I've had several menu items, but my favorite is the chicken and waffles. Crispy chicken with soft, fluffy waffles, exceptionally seasoned green beans, and excellent mac and cheese. This time I grabbed the peanut butter pie to take back to my hotel room and now I'm sad I didn't grab a second slice to enjoy as the week goes on. Service is always excellent, staff is always so friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is great whether there are 2 people in the restaurant or 200. Just an all-around excellent experience every time, highly recommend.
Right, let's get one thing straight: finding a decent meal in Foggy Bottom in the middle of the afternoon can be a total minefield. But I stepped into Founding Farmers, and I have to say, there's some real talent in that kitchen. First off, let's talk about Evalese. Absolute professional. Her service was sharp, her recommendations were on the money, and she ran that floor like a pro. In a world of lazy service, she's a breath of fresh air. The Food: We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. Stunning. They're served with a green goddess sauce and a house-made goat cheese sauce that is—quite frankly—delightful. The crunch, the acidity, the creaminess? Beautiful. Then came the Cornbread. Look, it's not going to win a Michelin star. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's certainly not the worst. It's well above mediocre—solid, reliable, but could use a bit more "wow." For the mains, we went for the Steak and Chicken Enchiladas and the Ribeye. And let me tell you, they were cooked to perfection. Pink, juicy, seasoned properly—no excuses, just great cooking. The Catch: However, there is a massive "but." The dining room was freezing. I'm sitting there, the customers are shivering, even the servers look like they're trekking through the Arctic. It's uncomfortable! You've got brilliant food coming out of the kitchen, but you're serving it in a walk-in fridge. Turn the heat up! You're a restaurant, not an ice rink! The Verdict: If you can ignore the frostbite, it's a 9.5 out of 10. The food is top-tier and the service is world-class. Just for heaven's sake, bring a parka.
Consistently one of the best restaurants in DC. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and the servers and kitchen are very attentive to allergies and customizations. Highly recommend the winter stews! Foggy Bottom, like most of the locations, can be a little noisy, but otherwise a nice, relaxed ambience.
My husband and I had the best dinner here last night with the most amazing waitress Her name was Evalese and she was so kind and so attentive.. The food was so good too! It was a cold evening so my husband had the yankee pot roast and I had the tomato soup with the grilled cheese. It was also so good.
Gotta have the cornbread - always. I had a seafood cheesy rissoto that was perfect. My only complaint was that it was a cold day - and I guess we were seated too close to the door, so I couldn't get warm enough to fully enjoy my food. Other than that - I recommend and would go again.
Everything was fresh & tasted excellent. Service workers were kind & courteous. We will be back 100%. PS-the in-house brined pickles were so tasty!
Our server Gabrielle was excellent--competent and personable. Our meals were delicious, and your appetizers are always the best.
I'm sorry, but as a regular customer who often brings guests from GW to the restaurant I can say that the level of the food and the service is constantly declining. Service was extremely slow and food was below average. In fact, not a single one of us who were a party of four – finished their dish. Because the service was so slow by the time we finished was so late that no one would even had the patience to order coffee and dessert.

The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Madeline, our server, was kind and attentive, pointing out just the right drinks for my friend and I. Very good experience.
