Grand Duchess used to be my favorite spot in DC. The drinks were great, service was amazing, but the best part was the company. It was like a community hub for DC leftist and progressive folks, so no matter what day or time, you knew you'd run into friends at Duchess (including the bartenders). The walls and bathroom were covered with pro-Palestine, pro-liberation, and pro-working class artwork, signs, and community event announcements. Unfortunately, ownership recently wiped the walls clean and stripped Duchess of everything that made it feel like home for so many of us. Hopefully, ownership will realize soon that selling out their morals will also hurt their pockets. Until then, I won't be coming back.

Every single time we go here the staff is so incredibly rude. It’s such a shame because it’s a great neighborhood bar but the folks that work there act like bartending is the biggest inconvenience no matter how kind and friendly you are.

Haters will say this place deserves 4.7 stars, but this place deserves all 5 of its stars. They crush it every time. Playing the cranberries for st paddy’s day was a great move. Also the hot dog was amazing
I love Grand Duchess! It's a solid bar with a beautiful interior and a no nonsense menu. Their sandwiches are always a hit and it's just a good cozy spot when you want to go out for a drink but don't want to be overwhelmed.
