Neighborhood institution that continues to deliver! When we lived in the Dstrict a decade+ ago, we would frequent Hank’s on Q Street NW for its amazing brunch and happy hour oyster deals. After all these years, popped in on a Saturday midafternoon for a much needed martini and ordered the griddled crab cakes. And it was BETTER than ever! Seriously, I have a very specific way that I like my martini, Hector nailed it (thank you!), and the crab cakes were crisped on the outside, meaty (as in not cheating you with starch fillers) and so juicy on the inside, and the coleslaw side (vinegar based) was on point too. Love Hanks now more than ever.
Very crowded and noisy. Food was good, but nothing special. Host/Hostess not very friendly, and same for the waiter.
A great place for oysters and meeting friends.
My food was not the best this time generally it is really good The prices are a little steep for some of the portions however it's generally worth it still to me. I didn't like that there was a dog at the table next to me and I'm trying to eat it was barking from scratching my server was accommodating once she started paying attention to us when I wasn't satisfied with my food she did try to make it better for me but I just didn't want to give it a try. I will generally give you five stars for everything just this experience was why you got the mixed stars
Every time I’m in dc I make sure I pop out to Hanks!!! The food AMAZING, the drinks AMAZING and the atmosphere passes the vibe check every time.
It really isn’t worth the price we paid ($200 with tip). Some of the raw food tasted a little weird and I’m crossing my fingers for tomorrow morning.
Lobster bisque was decent, crab dip was really greasy and not tasty, jumbo shrimp was average, strange wine list, terrible choice of sparkling wine.
Potato mash was super salty but they took it out of the final bill.
Love so many things about this place - not least the lobster roll. However, the $15 espresso martini (or whatever they wish to call the equivalent) that arrives at about 100ml in a small plastic cup on the back upstairs patio isn’t something I love.
Until I that improves to proper cocktails and not an instagram scam, I’ll be skipping.
The food here was absolutely fantastic – the raw oysters were so fresh we had to order a second dozen! The lobster bisque and tuna tartare were both packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. Our server never checked in to refill drinks or ask if we wanted anything else from the bar, and it wasn’t particularly busy at the time. Still, the food alone makes this place worth visiting – just hope for a more attentive experience next time.
Had an early dinner, and I love this place and definitely will come again!! Even though my first language isn't English, and sightseeing by myself, alone, the GREAT waiters at the bar were very kind and polite to me. LOVE the atmosphere, the oysters were delicious, and so were the cocktails.

The Wharf is a must when visiting D.C. We ordered a few small plates to share. We started with a variety of three different oysters. We then had the lobster deviled eggs, which didn't taste very much like there was any lobster in it. We then had the crab, octopus, and the watermelon burrata salad. The Rum punch cocktail was refreshing. We sat outdoors, but when the sun was directly on us we asked to move tables. The waiter asked us to move, and he didn't move our stuff for us. It was kind of disappointing, especially since it was not a fast food place. Service definitely can improve in that regard.

The food was amazing, and the recommendation from our waitress, Yana, was top-notch. She knew exactly what to suggest, making the experience even more enjoyable. Thank you, Yana! I highly recommend to try oysters, lobster roll, and scallops.
