I was solo. I love hanks
but the food this time was disappointing. The clam chowder was watered down.., and my oysters was half cooked
the waiter forgot my order so I ended up carrying out..

My mother and I had a great experience. We ordered oysters, lobster roll and clam chowder. All excellent.

Hank’s is one of the best spots in town — their lobster roll and fried oysters are hands down the best I’ve had in DC. The back patio is super cute and makes a great hangout, especially during happy hour. Always a solid choice when you’re craving good seafood in a fun setting. Note, the restaurant can be loud

Yana (our waitress) was fantastic. Made great recommendations, educated us on the various oysters and just provided the ‘right’ amount of attention. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and dining experience. Highly recommend

The only thing better than the phenomenal food was the service. Our server took amazing care of 11 of us. Despite our group being a little more than slightly high maintenance, she went above and beyond to explain the the night's specials and recommend fantastic drinks with polish and efficiency.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had mixed feelings about the experience. On the positive side, the food was absolutely excellent—flavorful, well-presented, and clearly made with care. The location was beautiful, and with the perfect weather that day, the overall setting was truly enjoyable.

However, the service left a lot to be desired. When I asked a staff member who seemed to be the bartender for a glass of wine, she responded in a surprisingly rude and dismissive way, telling me to speak to my waiter or waitress instead. It felt unnecessarily arrogant and unhelpful, especially coming from someone working there.

To be fair, our waiter was polite and seemed like he was doing his best, but it was clear he was under pressure. He checked in every 10 minutes with a rushed “Is everything okay?” and didn’t have time to actually engage with us. It felt more like he was following orders than offering genuine hospitality. For a bill that totaled $266, I expected a more relaxed and attentive dining experience. If you guys are in such a hurry, maybe consider opening a food truck instead at least then the rushed pace would make sense.

It’s a shame because the food, ambiance, and weather made for what could have been a perfect meal. If the management gave their staff more time and support to focus on guests, this place could easily become a favorite. But as it stands, I left feeling brushed off, and that made the whole experience fall short of its potential.

Neighborhood institution that continues to deliver! When we lived in the Dstrict a decade+ ago, we would frequent Hank’s on Q Street NW for its amazing brunch and happy hour oyster deals. After all these years, popped in on a Saturday midafternoon for a much needed martini and ordered the griddled crab cakes. And it was BETTER than ever! Seriously, I have a very specific way that I like my martini, Hector nailed it (thank you!), and the crab cakes were crisped on the outside, meaty (as in not cheating you with starch fillers) and so juicy on the inside, and the coleslaw side (vinegar based) was on point too. Love Hanks now more than ever.

Very crowded and noisy. Food was good, but nothing special. Host/Hostess not very friendly, and same for the waiter.
