We popped in to the Hawk n Dove after a busy morning touring the Capitol Building. We were greeted at the door in a reasonable amount of time. It looked like the restaurant was full, but they were able to get us a table near the kitchen - which is always fun since you can watch the buzz of the kitchen and wait staff hustling out all of the food orders. There is a lot going on here - busy bar, sports, news and trivia televised on screens above the bar. Witty T-shirts and memorabilia hanging on the walls. Generous portions, and upscale healthy food options in addition to the normal pub grub. We noticed that other tables had opted for salads and flatbreads so we did too. The personal sized flatbread was the perfect amount for one person. Nice combination of toppings and a warm soft crust. Salads were perfectly seasoned and dressed. Everyone in my party was happy with their lunches. Definitely would recommend.

We tried their salads and they were very good. I had salmon added to the cob salad. There were four adults and two small children, and the waiter took good care of us.

Super convenient location to capital hill if you're touring and need a bite. The fried pickles were awesome. We love their flatbreads and handhelds. Good for a casual lunch.

We had a work reception at the Hawk N Dove for the second year in a row. We worked with Leah, who was incredible to work with. She was efficient, super communicative, flexible and understanding. We are so grateful for Leah and the whole Hawk N Dove team! And thanks to the cooks for catering an organic meal for our crew :)Dietary restrictions: One guest had pretty restrictive dietary restrictions and the Hawk N Dove was able to accommodate - thank you!

Picturesque. Divey. Visited twice while in DC for an annual business trip. Once with a large party of people seated at a table and the other with a few people seated at the bar. Large party was a fail. Lackluster service with puzzling reasons from the beginning on why a check couldn't be separated. Great if all received per diem but many didn't and needed receipts for reimbursed travel. The manager intervened and finally took care of us. My visit the next night while seated at the bar was better. Theres some decent items on the menu. The Capitol Burger was the most interesting with ham, salami, bacon, and provolone. Fries crisp and hot. The Founding Fathers flatbread pizza was also a great pairing with drinks. Will unlikely visit again unless it's during slow hours, definitely not again with a large group.

The food and drink we were served at our recent visit to Hawk n Dove was so awful, I feel compelled to comment. I thought fish and chips would be a safe bet at a bistro/pub, but the only OK thing about it here was the tasty though overly shredded and limp coleslaw, which was served in a tiny plastic condiment cup alongside a condiment cup of greasy, flavorless sauce (unidentifiable except for the mayonnaise). The fish was scant--the dish consisted mainly of a thick, bread-like coating, soggy with grease. The chips were soft and not overly seasoned with salt and paprika. Maybe they would have been OK if crispy. The rockfish entree was worse--the fish was invisible, smothered in some kind of cream sauce and surrounded by unidentifiable overcooked vegetables. The chicken pot pie had an attractive crust and was served in a cast-iron skillet, but it was otherwise not distinguishable from Swanson's. The Cobb salad was a pile of mesclun with a slab of salmon on top--it bore no resemblance to traditional crunchy, vegetable-rich Cobb salad. Sadly, even the hard cider we ordered (supposedly on draft) was awful. It was sweet, flat, and under chilled. It may have been apple juice from the grocery store diluted with a bit of seltzer. The service was good, and the restaurant is cute--maybe too cutesy --and conveniently located. It gives the impression of banking on reputation and location, with food and drink as remotely secondary concerns. Note: I was entertaining guests and didn't want to make us late for the concert and otherwise spoil everyone's evening by making a fuss. Also, the server was nice. But I wanted to sent everything back to the kitchen and bar and walk out. It was that bad!

Food was ok, nothing that knocked my socks off. You can tell that there are not many fresh items on the menu: frozen veggies in the pot pie, canned sauce on the pizza, frozen fish and not to mention everything was super hot! Service was decent, but seemed rushed, even though the dining room was almost empty. We were seated very quickly and they asked us what we wanted to drink before we even sat down! The restaurant definitely needs a spring cleaning too, I don't know if it's the ambiance but the taxidermy on the wall needs dusting and there were bugs flying around the restaurant.
