I read about this restaurant in the Washington Post and was excited to visit but the food did not live up to the hype. I was told this is a soul food restaurant but the food lacks that soul food flavor. The food is well cooked and is prepared well but it is bland and lacks that soul food flavor. Vegetarian options: I ordered the vegetable curry with rice.
The dish consisted of some steamed vegetables in a very watery curry sauce which was not very flavorful. The rice seemed to be an instant rice.
Overall it was a major disappointment and in my opinion, overpriced. This was my first visit to this restaurant and definitely my last.

The food is always delicious and full of flavor. Whether dining in or take out, I’m always happy with the quality and the service. You can’t go wrong with the fried chicken dinner, crab cakes, burger, shrimp, fish fry, or the pork chops. Thick cut fried are so good, and I get the collards all the time. My wife loves the veggie curry too. But the people make the place, and the staff and customers are great.
