The very nice server needed to be shadowed as he must have been new. Was asked questions about what lettuce was in the charred wedge and he went to find out and never returned with the answer. It was broccoli and it was delicious. He needed to learn the menu. He was uncomfortable explaining entrees and how the family table option worked (portions).
An exceptional dinner experience from the time you come in and meet the host to check your reservation to the last bite of food and sip of your drink. The space is truly unique mixing historic and contemporary in its design. The service is truly excellent. Servers were prompt, hospitable, and friendly. The food, cocktail, and wine menu is innovative. The squash appetizer and swordfish entree were truly spectacular!
This was my first experience at Iron Gate, and while I knew I was reserving a table at the bar on OpenTable, I was surprised by how close together the tables were. We ended up at a table directly beside the bar's service and prep area, where glassware is handled and drinks are constantly being made, which made the space extremely loud with frequent clinking, shaking, and bottle popping. For how expensive the restaurant is, the ambience didn't quite match the overall...
