Pretty good cheesesteak. Especially for DC. The good: Amaroso roll, thin sliced ribeye, the cheesesauce (and I’m a provolone and not a wiz guy). The not so good: steak should be chopped more and a bit greasier. I like provolone because, well the flavor, and I like it put on top of the steak while still on the grill and then chopped and mixed for the last couple minutes so it gets all gooey. These are more of the wiz style where the cheese is squirted (here poured from a cup of cheese they give you) on top. The cheesesauce is homemade so not traditional wiz but I liked it. I recommend heating it up in microwave for a few mins before pouring it on. Also, all cheesesteaks need to be eaten soon as they come off the grill. Waiting too long ruins them. I recommend don’t get delivery, pick it up and eat it right then. If this were in Philly I’d give 3 stars but I uprated to four stars because for DC it’s above average.
My cheesesteak was mostly good and the tots were perfect - knocking down to 3 stars because I agree, something's missing with the cheese sauce. I think it was a little overpriced at $15, but everything in that strip tends to run pretty high honestly.
Waited half an hour and paid $18 for a cold, dry tasteless cheesesteak.
In my experience, this is a cheesesteak place with a bad cheesesteak. Mine was definitely a 1 star cheesesteak. It made a Wawa cheesesteak look like steak from John’s Roast Pork. To the restaurant’s credit, the roast pork sandwich was 3 stars (with a nice touch of giving the roll a garlic bread treatment) and the tater tots were good.
I read an article on DC.eats.com about 13 Cheesesteaks to try right now.. I saw #4 Jimmy's Philly Steak and decided Family this is what's for dinner tonight. They looked and we all agreed, yep this was it, however it wasn't .. it was Horrible expensive for no reason.. looked nothing like the picture .. the cheese tasted like that powdered cheese from box macaroni.. it was so bad I don't even want to try the other places on the list because clearly the author doesn't know a good Philly cheesesteak.. I give it 2 stars because my husband really enjoyed his meatball sub
