Fun dive bar, great for a Guinness.

Huge potential and lovely old pub but a bit run down and grimy atmosphere inside...
Sorry, just being honest.
And obviously as it's near central DC, it is v expensive.
It seems a bit of a strange atmosphere - it should be friendly and irish (like a true irish pub), but it just seems a bit unfriendly. Maybe that's the DC way?

We chose Kelly’s Irish Times as the spot for our wedding afterparty and it was the perfect choice.
If you're staying near Capitol Hill (especially on NJ Ave), I highly recommend heading here for your late-night celebration. Sean and the team were incredible, drinks were flowing, no one was waiting at the bar, and the energy was amazing. Everyone had an absolute blast!
We can’t thank the team at Irish Times enough, they were truly the icing on the cake after an unforgettable few days!

First time here and though it is a tribute to the men and women in blue, we probably won’t be back. The staff wasn’t very engaging and the atmosphere needs a major renovation. We did enjoy looking at all of the police badges from around the country.

Good pint of Guinness
Service(ish) without a smile. No live music like there was 25 years ago when I was a regular. ☹️
Great watering hole. Carlos, with his dark curly locks, was a great bartender. He was on top of service and had me memorized by his perfect guiniess pour.

A Pint of Shelter: Dodging D.C. Storms at Kelly’s The Irish Times
Kelly’s The Irish Times on Capitol Hill was the perfect place to swerve into to avoid an incoming storm approaching Washington, D.C. (Fri, May 30, 2025). The Irish pub had caught our eye during our earlier visit to D.C. the previous weekend.
Not only was it smaller than the surrounding buildings, but it had a much bigger Irish-looking neighbor that somehow made Kelly’s look more authentic, and that told us it had character - and we were right.
Kelly’s The Irish Times was a lively, atmospheric bar, self-described as “sometimes boisterous.” It was established in 1978 and is presumably named after the owner, Mr Brendan Kelly.
We sat at the bar and ordered:
🍺 Black & Blue = $8.62
🍺 Blue Moon x 2 = $16.36
⛔️ Alcohol Free Heineken x 3 = $21.00
😢 Tax = $4.60
💰 Total = $50.58
We left a gratuity that reflected the swift and attentive service. We enjoyed our time there and it was the kind of place we could’ve stayed all night, but the next day we were flying out of D.C. so needed to get some sleep.
Noticing a slight lull in the rain, we took our leave, pleased to have found hydration inside rather from the storm outside!
I diffently recommend visiting lest once in your life time. The place is a bar.
Good place in middle of city to grab drink. Beers are really cheap here. $6-$7 for pint. Not bad in this area
Had a great time - quick drinks, great music, super friendly.
This bar does not have a good selection of drinks.
