The environment was really nice, the service was good, and I loved the appetizers. However, the food was vastly overpriced and mediocre at best. I’m talking $40 for fried chicken! Also, I’m a little perplexed that this place is not Black owned as the name “Kinfolk”suggest.

NOT KINFOLK!On April 8, 2024, I triped and fell over equipment in front of the restaurant, as landscaping work was underway, and bruised my leg - painful but not serious. There were no security cones or other other warnings to the public that equipment was in the walkway. Although notified of the accident, neither the restaurant owner, nor Hoffman Developers extended the courtesy of a simple apology, as did the landscaping company and another vendor who was onsight. RUDE and unwelcoming!

While Kinfolk is conveniently located in our neighborhood and decor is nice that’s where positivity stops. I went in around happy hour (4pm-6pm). For this to be a restaurant named after familiar word my community uses “kinfolk” I was confused by the lack of black people working there. The cocktail of the day was overly syrupy with too much elderflower. Ordered the deviled eggs, she crab soup, and brisket sliders. The deviled eggs had no flavor and tasted literally like a plain boiled egg with mustard mixed with the yolk. The soup was inedible for me and the sliders were “okay”.For an entree we ordered the brisket and ribs with sides as Mac and cheese, potato salad, esquites (a cold corn elotes type of dish) and fries. Mac and cheese was watery and gave boxed mac&cheese, the potato salad needed at the least salt. When I say nothing, I’m not over exaggerating that NOTHING had flavor or was smoked. My ribs were over cooked and had to be drowned in bbq sauce to eat any of it. For two slices of brisket, which they called a half pound…debatable it was $25 tough and also flavorless. This place is overpriced and flavorless. And I heard a rumor that don’t have a smoker anywhere in the back! These skinfolk ain’t my kinfolk. We will not be going back to Kinfolk at the Wharf. Also please mop your bathroom floors!

I had dinner here yesterday. I Ordered the brisket. It wasn’t seasoned enough for me and it was very thinly sliced. It didn’t have the smokey flavor I was hoping for. The mac and cheese was also underwhelming. My drink was strong but not tasty, I ordered the berry bliss delight. My friend ordered the fried chicken and she said it also lacked seasoning. The decor is pretty, it has a southern rustic feel. Bathrooms were nice and clean and designed nicely.

A little bland and definitely not the “Southern” cuisine that I was expecting. Won’t be back.

Not sure I’d call this authentic southern food. For instance, bread crumbs on mac and cheese is an abomination in my culture! I am from the South but live here now and this is the LAST place I’d choose for southern food and barbecue. I wonder if the recipes were adjusted for “other” tastes or something? I’m not hating, but want to just warn “those interested” ….this is NOT your mama, grandmama, or auntie’s recipes. And why aren’t the prices on the menu on the website? Because the prices are higher than you’d think.

Extremely fast, great presentation! Drinks great! Food ok but does not warrant the price..(3 people food, one round of drinks 40min = $250+) you pay for the location I guess. Not a black person in the house apart from those dining; no “kinfolk” present.

This place is beautiful and lively but the food catfished me. They get two stars because wings and crab dip appetizers were good. The entrees were absolutely disgusting so I took the food back. I ordered the steak and potatoes, took a bite of the steak and all I tasted was burnt flesh. Somehow it was burnt but medium in the middle which is beyond me . The steak had a weird funky old taste to it that was so bad I could not swallow it. My friend and I decided to IMMEDIATELY take the food back and order something different. I then ordered the fried catfish which was okay but wouldn’t recommend. My drink was nasty as well , won’t be going back. I’m confused by the name because I thought I would be getting actual southern food but it’s clear it’s just a front to attract a certain audience .

Food is amazzzinnnggg!!!! The crab dip is the best crab dip I have ever had, cornbread was delicious, tandoori chicken juicy and flavorful, and the best tiramisu I ever tried. I had their version of an espresso martini with tequila and it was soo yummy and smooth. Service was impecable we had a large party and the servers were very accommodating. Will definitely be coming back soon!

My experience wasn’t what I expected. I went on opening night and it was advertised on their Instagram page as having live entertainment but there wasn’t any. The beef rib was tender and flavor wasn’t spectacular, but more importantly the portion was not worth $59 for one rib and the half toast it came with. The Mac and cheese didn’t have enough flavor and I didn’t like the bread crumbs on top. The drinks were too strong for my liking and tasted like pure alcohol. I do however like the location and we had a good server.

The space is beautiful and the weather was perfect so they had the doors/windows open and it was a really cute vibe. Everything was a tad overpriced, but expected for the wharf. I'll start with the good...the hush puppies were pretty good off the appetizer menu, so was the Magnolia Berry Breeze mocktail, and the banana foster creme brulee for dessert. I got the burnt ends which gave a healthy portion, and tasted ok over all, but the tostones (smashed plantains) were not good at all. It wasn't a good pairing, everything tasted too salty between that and the meat. The waitress also left a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the service. Her service during the meal was fine, but she was very insistent about how much she should be tipped, and even got a little argumentative, and that was a real turn off. The meal was $144 for 2 people (3 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 meals and dessert). Maybe once it's been open longer and some of the kinks get worked out I would try it again, but doubtful.

Kinfolk is not Black owned. Feels like appropriation. Staff were nice. We won’t be going back.
