We have dining at Kingbird for years as we have opening night opera tickets. I was really looking forward to the Cioppino on the pre-fix dinner menu, but it was very disappointing: 3 mussels, two 1” cubes pieces of fish, a tough piece of cooked fennel, one large shrimp and two small pieces of toasted sourdough. I've had much better elsewhere. The shrimp cocktail consisted of 3 large, well prepared shrimp accompanied by a pleasant sauce (it used to be 4 or 5 shrimp previously)....
We have been to Kingbird several times. The food is good, although pricy. Our server was great. The restaurant is very convenient for pre-theatre dining before the Kennedy Center. The restaurant could use a refresh in terms of decor, especially the window blinds which don't work well.
The food was good, but the service was terrible. There was only 1 or 2 servers for the entire floor on a Friday night. They didn't have at least 3 wines in the wine list and recommended something that wasn't even close to what we had requested originally.
