The only reason I'm adding the second star is for the quality of the drink. However, the service was horrendous. Your female bartender had a horrible attitude, and we were so insanely excited to check out the vibe of this place. However, despite planning to be here for over two hours until our reservation at Lapis, we ended up leaving after only one hour. We saw a new bartender after our dinner, so we planned to try and get another drink. However, despite being open for another 30 minutes, they said they wouldn't serve us. We exited back out Lapis and were told by a server that they just choose when they're going to close early. So disappointed, and frankly, I'm fighting to not just stick with the one star review honestly.

Came for a Holiday party with a buffet pre-ordered meal. Everything was wonderful. The meat was very tender and flavorful. Spinach was incredibly tasty. Rice Pudding had excellent flavor and was not too sweet. Excellent food.

We came for cocktails and an appetizer before dinner at Lapis. Wife had the Viceroy which was great. She wants me to learn to make it, which I’ll fail at. I had a seasonal cocktail with gin, mezcal, and an egg white (think whiskey sour). I loved the cardamom, because I’m basic. We shared the mantoo classic dumplings, which we loved.Only negative was a slight reverb in the speakers. Music was great though.

The food here is great. We especially enjoyed the lamb chops, eggplant and the ricotta cake. The service was a little slow and our table’s seating was a little uncomfortable for a two hour dinner. Ask for a booth.

We had a great meal at Lapis. It was very busy, but it was a beautiful night. Reservations were easy. I’m a vegetarian and was unsure about menu items. The waitress was very helpful. We had shrimp dumplings as an appetizer and they were phenomenal. For a meal I had the veggie pagow and wow! Amazing. Drinks were on point. Will be back

Dinner here is a really fun adventure for the taste buds. We were fortunate to have our lovely niece-in-law, who is of Afghan heritage, to order the food and explain the details of this very nuanced food. What a treat.

We were a party of four on a Sunday evening. We made reservations the day before and were happy we did because the restaurant was packed. We had a wonderful meal, the only complaint being the noise volume. We were seated inside. We started with the pakora (vegetable fritter), mantoo shrimp (shrimp dumplings), and samarok ( mushrooms). We followed this with a plate of lamb cutlets, roasted carrots, and stuffed naan. Two people shared a bottle of wine and two had a cocktail. Everything was outstanding. Highly recommended. Outdoor seating on a patio was available but the evening was chilly . The prices for the food were quite reasonable for the high quality. Our server was very friendly and knowledgable. A 20% gratuity is included in final bill.

We had an wonderful dinner. Lapis was a cozy dining establishment, warmly if somewhat dimly-lit. This was our first time to sample Afghani food and we thoroughly enjoyed all our dishes from the bolani flatbreads, dumplings (aushak), lamb shanks and gabuli palow washed down with well-crafted cocktails and a bottle of rosé from Lebanon. Our server was attentive and prompt, always ready to help us out with selecting our dishes. Definitely consider enjoying dinner at Lapis

Seated on time, not a great table with air conditioning right above us. Really big menu and food was delicious, quite pricey but very good quality. A very popular and busy place so make sure to book way ahead like we did. Would definitely go back.

Food was delicious. Loved trying Afghani food. Really enjoyed the starters and dumplings. Lots of veggie choices and chicken and lamb too. And the rice pudding with cardamom was a refreshing dessert. Good service too.

Lapis is a wonderful, intimate Afghani restaurant on Columbia Road in Adams Morgan. It’s a pleasant space with about a dozen tables and a small bar area. We had the mantoo classic dumplings which were tasty with sweet and sour tastes, the chaplee kabob - more delicious spicy lamb Pattie’s and the qapuli palow - lamb pieces with carrots and raisins and spiced rice. A very relaxing place with delicious food. I would definitely go again.

Great spot for dinner in a lovely part of Washington DC. Friendly and helpful staff. Great Afghan/Middle Eastern menu. We sat outside on a lovely balmy night.

We were visiting friends in DC during Cherry Blossom Festival and they recommended we meet here. Wow! We started with the Mantoo classic beef and shrimp dumplings, which were out of this world! We selected several entrees: lamb tikka, kofta (beef meatballs), morgh kabob (chicken), side of fries (with harissa aioli) and finished with sheer yakh (afghan vanilla ice cream &pistachios). Each dish was better than the last, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It gets packed (deservedly so!) so make reservations!
