Marx Cafe is a Mount Pleasant gem. I often pop in for a quick dinner and always leave happy. (Tip: Get the avgolemono soup and ask for black pepper!) The menu is reasonably priced, and the staff are all great. Yes, the space is small and often crowded, especially when the live jazz band performs, but that's part of the charm. It feels a lot more authentic than a lot of pricier options in the area.If you're looking for a place that can be your local bar, then this more than fits the bill. I'm moving out of the neighborhood in a few months; I'll miss having such an awesome place be only a five-minute walk from my apartment!

What a great find! Really good food (try the calamari!), friendly service, and a bustling atmosphere (sit outside and people-watch) make this a gem in the neighborhood.

i love marx cafe. the coffee is so good. the bartender is hot in a scary way. what will she do to me? seems like it'll either be nothing or something i'll never recover from. 9/10

This has been a neighborhood staple for a long time but seems to have slipped into mediocrity. Service and staff were helpful and friendly but food is not what it was- for example the taramaslata that was previously a real star was very mayo forward and light on the cod roe. Salads had reverted to “ok” with a lot of icebergBiggest single issue was a machine blasting air freshener perfume into the air every 10 minutes with a cloud of vapor drifting down on to our food. Super gross and allergy inducing.Couple of other issues but Hope management is listening and can upgrade back to where they once were.

I go to a lot of shows here. It's intimate, but the staff are all very friendly, and the food (especially the late night menu) is excellent. Definitely a gem of Mount Pleasant.

It’s fine. Good bar. Very slow. Average food. Great ambience.

I enjoyed getting a beer with a friend here after work on a Thursday. It wasn't too busy, but still lively. Service was friendly and overall very good, although it did take much too long for our order to be taken (food, not drinks. The latter we got quickly.) I'd happily come back, but maybe not for dinner.

This place has an identity crisis: Greek food. Bar food. Sports on the TV. German beer hall decor. Communist name. Love it.

The food was much better before the owners changed. Since then, I've seen rats in there. I wont be going back.

Had a wonderful brunch on Saturday. Ordered off the breakfast menu and they had Chimay on draft and soccer on the TV. Instant favorite of mine. Service was outstanding.

Place is dangerous. Do not show cash when you pay your tab .I was robbed by two gunmen outside while I was smoking . Somehow they knew I had cash ? in my wallet .
