If you love mole, this is where you need to be. A Chef Muy Excellente makes three: black, red, and green. My choice is black, but you cannot go wrong choosing any of the deliciousness from this friendly Adams Avenue location. The savvy cleverly tented outdoor space is just what the doctor ordered for pandemic times--or anytime. Mole specials on Tuesday and Friday make for a VERY Happy HourMaybe the best tequila collection and the expertise to go with it, too. Of course they do margaritas, but Mayahuel is beyond the ordinary. In many ways.

I live in the neighborhood. I had been going to this restaurant quite frequently as the happy hour specials were a good deal. I stopped going after a particularly bad experience. Our waiter kept forgetting our order, it took almost an hour to get food, and then the bill included things we did not order (to the tune of about $50). When we challenged the bill, the waiter was quite rude and attempted to fight with us about it all as if we were trying to pull a fast one on the establishment. I was shocked, to be honest. It was clear to me that this restaurant sees their business as a given--no need to provide good food or good service, as people will keep coming. I decided to buck that trend.

Really excellent food, drinks, and service. The Happy Hour margarita pitchers are a great deal. I hope they are able to open again soon.

Surprisingly good! Simple things, like side salad, were elevated. Spouse was remarking on how good the fish tacos were even hours later. I wish we had time to go here again.

Tacos were good but you have to explicitly ask for corn tortillas, they don't even ask what you'd prefer. My flan came out with cookies and cream on it, which is a hell of an idea. Prices were fairly reasonable.

honestly this place was phenomenal! I read a review below before going here that said their food tasted authentic mexican and that is the best thing I can say about this place. the food was truly delicious.here’s what you order...cocktail: la conquista, better than a margaritaentree: carne asada tacos, so much flavor in the steak and the rice and beans as a side is perfect to eat simultaneouslydessert: churros con nutella, hot cinnamon churros with ice cream and nutella it doesn’t get better with the hot and cold. we split them it was the perfect finisher.the bartender was very friendly, we will be returning because apparently there’s a happy hour?? mind blown.

Excellent food good prices great ambiance and decent service for a very reasonable price. Not the most authentic food but great flavors nonetheless. Highly recommended.

Great wine selection and view of the anacostia river. The food was ok but I'm pretty picky. I would go for the experience of good wine.

The food here is delicious. I ate dinner here and it was very slow not a lot of people. The flavors were perfect to my taste. The atmosphere was pleasant to sit in I love all the colors and the sugar skulls as decor. The bartender and the staff are very quiet and polite.

Came here because it was close to the zoo, but will return because the food was amazing! Delicious queso that is SO authentic. Not just some frozen stuff from a giant machine that's microwaved. They also have plantains that were SO delicious. The menu is amazing and not the DC prices I was expecting either

The food tastes like authentic Mexican food (no Tex-Mex flavor compared to many DC restaurants). The service is simply impressive. Different than other very good Mexican restaurants in DC, the price is very good, hence the quality/price ratio is fantastic. Strongly recommend it. They have a great happy hour on Saturdays for food and drinks.

We LOVE Mayahuel — their drinks and food are excellent. Favorite items include: spicy margarita, queso, and taquitos. Great local spot with a fun atmosphere. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Local Woodley Park resident here! I gave Mayahuel a few chances and I have to admit that while the restaurant is very cute, nice patio seating, and yummy drinks (hence 3 stars), the food is way overpriced and frankly, not tasty. If you want authentic or otherwise, you have better options (Cactus Catina, Espita, Taqueria Xochi, etc).

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel where we are staying. I have to agree ... it was sooo good! My husband and I got the fish tacos and they were seriously the best fish tacos we've ever had. We also had the trio dip with chips. Also super good. Don't miss this place!
